I have a paid professional relationship with Poki through Scala Media and have been compensated for work relating to the company and its website. I created this article as part of that work. I am therefore declaring a financial conflict of interest in accordance with Wikipedia's paid-contribution disclosure policy. McLaimhin (talk) 12:27, 21 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Proposed change to the Common Sense Media wording

[edit]

  • Specific text to be changed:
−
Common Sense Media, the nonprofit child media review organisation, reviewed Poki as a children's media destination and noted that the platform hosts thousands of browser-based games requiring no registration. The review criticised inconsistent game quality and described the platform as containing a "heavy amount of violence," concluding that "only older gamers should take a look with parental guidance." The review also noted that some games on the platform encouraged critical thinking and logical reasoning.
+
Common Sense Media, a nonprofit that reviews children's media, published a parents' guide to Poki. It noted that the site offers thousands of free browser games with no registration required, and that Poki was not designed specifically for children. The guide said the quality of games could be inconsistent and that the amount of violent content varied from game to game, and it noted that some games encouraged critical thinking and logical reasoning. It concluded that "only older gamers should take a look with parental guidance."
  • Reason for the change: The cited review states the site "wasn't designed specifically for kids", so describing Poki as a "children's media destination" contradicts the source. The review also repeatedly notes that violent content varies from game to game across the third-party games hosted, so attributing "a heavy amount of violence" to the platform as a whole overstates it. The proposed wording is more precise while keeping the review's stated conclusion as a direct quote. It also trims some incidental quotation per MOS:QUOTE.
