Temenos

Just to clarify, the peribolos and temenos are different terms. There are sources that describe sanctuaries that include both a peribolos and a temenos. The sanctuary of Malophoros, for instance, had a peribolos - a bigger area that housed a small temenos in one of its corners.^[1] A peribolos is also described as a surrounding area or fence while a temenos was a precinct - one of the two aspects of a sanctuary (the other being hieron). ^[2] This perhaps means that a peribolos may be referred to as a temenos wall if it encloses a temenos.
