He is known for proposing ripple-down rules. This has had a significant impact on both the computing industry as well as being commercialised in several companies, including:
- The Ballarat Incremental Knowledge Engine (BIKE) is a comprehensive open source implementation in C++. Includes plug-ins for single classification and multiple classification RDRs.
- Pacific Knowledge Systems (PKS) uses a ommercial product named LabWizard that is based on multiple classification ripple-down rules
- WEKA has a version of Induct RDR named Ridor.
