Why I undid 1288071898, the reversion of my edit
[edit]Here Wikipedia's standard for how to describe roads.
Here's a screengrab of the section in question from the original article and my edit. The white article text is the data I didn't retain.
Here's why:
- 82nd Avenue is beyond the scope of this article, so its end is irrelevant here.
- The road’s relation to the city around is it also irrelevant to this section, as is bus ridership here.*
- Part of the road’s length being designated as part of the Cascade Highway is also irrelevant to this section.*
- … an alignment of … was unnecessary to the description
- Cascade Highway South is also irrelevant to this section and to this article.
- I didn't fix the citation because about half a million Wikipedia articles carry a flag denoting source problems. This one isn't even part of that group. I didn't come to it to fix them and don't want to get pulled away from what I did come to do.
-* The standards don't seem to have a place for this sort of information. The way I read them is we're to describe the road as if we were driving it and not getting out at all. The bus traffic information would belong in an article about Portland, perhaps under a "Public transportation" section. If you disagree with me, if you see where it should go in this article, please let me know or please feel free move it there by your own initiative. I didn't mean to insult or promote Oregon or Portland. I'm trying to clean out the dead bugs, spiderwebs and dust bunnies in Wikipedia's less prominent corners.. - @Oona Wikiwalker: While cleanup work is appreciated, it has to be done more carefully. Citations must be used and properly included and deletion of cited content has to be considered carefully. In order to remove the Portland section, there needs to be updates to the History section and route junction list with an appropriate source; while the transfer has been completed, it is not reflected in ODOT's logs as of writing. Be sure to also link to the correct articles, as Portland, Salem, Liberal, etc. are disambiguation pages. SounderBruce 05:16, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
- @SounderBruce: I don't know if this article has ever conformed to Wikipedia standards for road routes, but it was tagged for needing such attention eight years ago. Eight years worth of Wikikpedians just bypassed it, though there's no doubt that the vast majority had good reasons. I still think of myself as a neophyte here. I have so much to learn and the following might be part of that, but it seems that finicky expectations about fixing the article might be part of why no one did anything. After eight years, isn't "good enough" better than just letting it sit, with it's route section written backwards, for even more time? (I hope I'm not coming off feisty, here.) Unclear northern terminus
[edit]What is the real terminus of this highway? The exit list suggests it ends at the Columbia Boulevard exit, while the embedded map suggests it goes until Airport Way. thetechie@enwiki (she/they | talk) 22:43, 22 December 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, so the highway is unsigned between right after Columbia and until Airport Way, as the exit list suggests. That means the map must be updated. thetechie@enwiki (she/they | talk) 00:12, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
