Do you have more information on these 'Optical Performance Monitors'? If there is any development in digital technology of that kind, what difference would it make for consumers? Please advice, if you have any information that is explained in simpler way
It's not necessarily a "digital" technology; OPMs are optical. I'll add some explanation shortly. Incidentally, most OPM/OCMs are not used for OSNR monitoring; it's a potential feature, but difficult to implement and not currently reliable for transmission formats above 10 Gb/s.
