I've attempted to improve some of the original concerns for this page; inline citations, references from primary sources, neutral encyclopedic tone and updated content from recent developments in the field with appropriate citations. I hope this edit leads to a higher rating for the page as well as remove some of the concerns ArchitectPrime (talk) 01:31, 16 April 2016 (UTC)

V2.0 Update

Per previous talk page comments: I believe this content needs to be re-written from the ground up - a “v2.0”. Although this topic is still nascent in the world it is now more than just a manifesto operating within the realm of ideas. As such it’s time for its Wikipedia article to evolve given historical updates in the last 10-15 years.

The initial Wikipedia article’s content was initiated as a Domus magazine “op-ed” co-written in 2011 by multiple architectural and cultural theorists, critics, and thought leaders using a collaborative method where Wikipedia was used to create and track the history and evolution of their writing.

Incrementally rewriting the content of an op-ed to become a factual encyclopedic article will be a long and complicated process. Additionally, none of the words or thoughts from this initial writing will be lost - they will exist on the Domus website and print archive, the Wayback Machine, and the version history of this Wikipedia page. The version of the content codified and published as a Domus article and the subsequently published Open Source Architecture book from 2016 (co-written by many of the same authors) are cited as key historical milestones of the topic in the “v2.0” Wikipedia article. (The Domus op-ed and book have very interesting ideas – I would recommend people read it if they’re interested in this topic. The fact that the book Open Source Architecture is not cited or listed in the article’s bibliography is a good indication that the content needs significant updating).

Additionally, “Citizen Centered Design” deserves its own page. While it is related to elements of “Open Source Architecture" these two topics are not the same things. As an example, citizen centered design may operate at the city planning scale or be applied to service design, which are adjacent to but not architecture. As such I’ve moved most of the content on “Citizen Centered Design” to a new page, which is being reviewed, and cross-linked it to this page. (I’m surprised this page does not exist yet!)

I propose using the “Open Source Hardware” page as a rough template of the v2.0 rewrite here and have started by filling out some sections that are transferable. There is certainly more to fill in.  

Within the encyclopedic context of a Wikipedia article, the topic of open source architecture is best served by focusing on historical and factual information supported by reputable sources.
