Gradient calculation

The article states that the gradient is 77°. Unless I'm missing some really weird, non-intuitive use of the word "gradient," that just seems WAY off. My calculation, based on the cable length and altitude difference provided in the article, yields a gradient of 13.2°. I'd make the change myself, but I'm holding out for an explanation that justifies the 77° figure.

I realize that 77° is simply 90° minus the 13° that I calculated, so maybe this was just a math error (using cosine instead of sine), but, again, maybe someone can explain that I understand the definition incorrectly. I'd think that gradient is measured from the horizontal, not the vertical. Thanks. Holy (talk) 00:46, 15 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
