I propose merging Mortuary Temple of Ramesses III into Medinet Habu.

I have recently done some background fixing up of the Mortuary Temple article, merging in the starter King List article, adding the relevant sources, and doing some basic work on the archaeology, etc. Actually bringing the article up to the state it deserves is more of a long term off and on haul. In any case, it appears to me that 90% of the Notability of the MH article is the Mortuary Temple. The few tiny bits inside the outer walls are pretty low notability and if they were just lying out by themselves would get little attention. Its also clear the 90% of the sources are going to be the same for both article which would be a lot of duplication. Some of the images as well are overlap. Anyway, that's my thinking on this.

Note - my normal home is in the ANE Project space though I do poke in the Ancient Egypt space from time to time. If these were ANE articles the situation is so straightforward that I would have just gone ahead, Been Bold, and done it as an noncontroversial merge. As it is it seems proper to do it as a proposal.

PS - there is a move proposal on the Mortuary Temple talk page which I can't quite puzzle out what happened there, though I read it twice. :-) Ploversegg (talk) 17:06, 17 May 2025 (UTC)

Merged article

Yes, its a little ragged, which is the way Wikipedia wants merges to be done ie move everything and THEN clean things up. It will improve, slowly. Note - there are way too many gallery images currently, some will become inline thumbnails and then there will be pruning.Ploversegg (talk) 18:21, 23 May 2025 (UTC)

Since merging the Medinet Habu king list into the Medinet Habu page has set a precedence, should the similar Ramesseum king list be merged into the Ramesseum article? 72.128.66.229 (talk) 20:04, 9 June 2025 (UTC)

I would say definitely yes. Really, for the most part the Ramesseum itself is much damaged, especially the inscriptions, and the article has a lot of fluff that could be removed like "The origins of modern Egyptology can be traced to the arrival in Egypt of Napoleon Bonaparte in the summer of 1798. While undeniably an invasion by an alien imperialist power, this was nonetheless an invasion of its times, informed by Enlightenment ideas" that probably were cribbed from some encyclopedia so having some actual facts in there would help it out. An aside - the medinet habu article now has online ptrs for the chompolion kitchen etc articles used in the Ramesseum king list article. Would not be for quite a while, partly because that would mean cleaning up the Ramesseum article first, which is unto cleaning the Augean stables. Probably after I finish with Medinet Habu which is getting harder as I notice people apparently have been adding fluff to it faster than I can clean it out. :-) Ploversegg (talk) 20:56, 9 June 2025 (UTC)

Article - To Do

I redid the article to the point where it contains all the important parts and sources and removed a bit of fluff. In general has "good bones" now. It needs

• small embellishments to the Military reliefs section.

Afterward a few gallery images can be promoted to inline thumbnails and the rest pruned down to a representative number. Notice that the list does not include bigfooting all the refs into "cites". I will continue to poke at it, now and then. Edit - update to reflect things done. I kept the topographic list section "to the facts" and avoided the endless speculation as it has (like the Amarna Letters and Hebrew Bible) been used to support no end of narratives. Edit - Did procession of princes. Edit - mortuary temple section is now adequate and gallery somewhat cleaned and added section on year battle inscriptions. Edit - embellished the OI archaeology to an adequate extent. Ploversegg (talk) 15:16, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
