  • ... that in 1956, a person dressed as the anthropomorphic hedgehog and comic star Mecki traveled by helicopter to over 100 cities in southern Germany to give children gifts?
  • Source: "children in more than 100 cities in southern Germany were determined not to miss their chance to see “Mecki”. In 1956, they flocked in their thousands to sports fields and other meeting places to await the white helicopter in which the mascot of the radio guide magazine “Hör zu!” was traveling on its publicity tour. Cheers went up as the popular hedgehog with the distinctive hairstyle climbed onto the helicopter’s skids as the chopper neared the ground.
The authorities had not allowed a landing for safety reasons, but “Mecki” always left behind picture books, dolls and other surprises, much to the delight of the girls and boys, some of whom had been given the day off school just to be there. And not a few of them were amazed at the artistic skills of the person in the “Mecki” costume: He was scarcely taller than they were." Axel Springer

  • This article was moved to the mainspace on the 17th and hence just meets the criteria of being new enough. It is long enough, QPQ has been done and Earwig shows no issues. The hook is interesting and verified by the source. @Thriley:, It would be great if you could please archive the sources and also sort out Ref #6 so it is not just a link. However, other than this it is good to go, well done! DaniloDaysOfOurLives (talk) 09:05, 28 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@DaniloDaysOfOurLives: Offering up a new hook: ALT1 that in Germany, an anthropomorphic hedgehog named Mecki is as instantly recognizable as Mickey Mouse? Thriley (talk) 22:28, 27 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
