I'm finding in the quotations of original sources (like newspapers, concert programs, and reviews) evidence that she went as Mme. Samuel after her marriage and in her role as a teacher and performer.

However, in the cataloging records of her publications, I'm seeing a different story. I'm definitely not seeing evidence that she published as Mme. L. Samuel in the citations provided. Perhaps those citations justify only the first portion of the paragraph? The only references to Mme. L. Samuel I'm finding in those sources are advertisements for her teaching.

Historic New Orleans collection has this record for a publication in 1889, https://catalog.hnoc.org/web/arena/search#/entity/thnoc-archive/33734/cooing-%2F-words-by-mrs.-e.-j.-nicholson-(pearl-rivers)-%3B-music-by-mme.-marguerite-elie-samuel.?q=%22marguerite+elie%22&source=thnoc-archive. In Concert Life in Nineteenth-Century New Orleans: A Comprehensive Reference, there is a description of one of her compositions (Ma vie a son secret) that is rather sapphic. I can't help wondering if most of her compositions are love songs about women, written for women's voices. Despite repeated inferences that she made most of her living composing and teaching, I'm seeing a max of 5 or 6 compositions listed, so that doesn't seem like an adequate sample.
