The last example, from Pankhurst, p. 30, should be redrawn: the slur should go from D to B, not to C: this third-progression elaborates D, and the C that follows does not belong to the same Zug. The example shown here is not faithful to Pankhurst's on this point. The commentary should as well reproduce Pankhurst's own comment: "The notation in Example 2.16c shows how the third progression from D is subordinate to (or less structurally important than) the overall descending third progression from E that it decorates. More structurally important notes are marked with stems and beams, and their embellishments are shown by unstemmed note heads that are connected to them with a slur."
