Not just a redirect
[edit]Previously this page was a redirect to Protecting Children from Internet Predators Act (and before that, to Modernization of Investigative Techniques Act). Given that lawful access has been a topic of discussion in Canadian politics for almost 30 years, and there have been at least three attempts to pass lawful access legislation, all controversial and widely discussed at the time, it probably makes sense to have a dedicated article about the subject, rather than just redirecting to the latest bill.
I'll flesh out this stub if I get the chance, but relevant information can be drawn from that Government of Canada website and the sources in the articles on individual bills. The BC Civil Liberties Association's submission about the most recent bill covers a lot of the common criticisms. Jd4v15 (talk) 17:16, 8 June 2026 (UTC)
- This is not a particularly Canadian issue or term. The article needs to be globalized at least for the Anglosphere where the term is common. A clear explanation of the distinction between lawful access (data at rest) and lawful interception (data in transit) is needed. Alternatively, a merge into the latter can be considered.
