"Kingdom of England" vs "Great Britain" vs "United Kingdom"
[edit]The section about USA land patents mentions the acquiring of land from - among others - the United Kingdom (UK).
Use of UK in this context is problematic because it did not exist before 1801; from 1707 up to that time, it was known as The Kingdom of Great Britain, or Great Britain. It was Great Britain which recognized the independence of all of its colonies in the new United States in 1781.
From its earliest date of colonizing America up to 1707, the country in question was the Kingdom of England. I've edited the section to make those historical distinctions. Twistlethrop (talk) 00:27, 28 October 2017 (UTC)

I take issue with this phrase because it lists Native Americans last. "Land in the United States of America was acquired by claim, seizure, annexation, purchase, treaty, or war from France, Great Britain, the Kingdom of Hawaii, Mexico, Russia, Spain, and the Native American peoples." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.53.46.211 (talk) 15:48, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
