Former good articleKurt Cobain was one of the Music good articles, but it has been removed from the list. There are suggestions below for improving the article to meet the good article criteria. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.

Background info

[edit source]

The "Death" section goes into too much background info and not enough regular details. Mentioned this on the Talk:Suicide of Kurt Cobain page about how it should be transplanted to the other page, which makes little mention of these. I hope to get to this soon, but figured I'd make sure no one disagrees. FloblinTheGoblin (talk) 03:12, 9 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Update: both of these articles have a lot of discrepancies. For example, one of them says he took a taxi to Seattle, while the other one says, he took a plane. Also, they can’t even agree on his death date. I don’t feel nearly qualified to fix this. Send help. FloblinTheGoblin (talk) 13:54, 25 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Nevermind about the death date, but the rest is still true. 𝓕𝓵𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓲𝓷 (Talk to me! · My contribs) 19:34, 17 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Cause of death

[edit source]

Cause of death is inaccurate. The death has been ruled as a homicide by independent investigators. So, still classifying cause of death as suicide is both inaccurate and disrespectful to him. He deserves better. ~2026-10662-06 (talk) 14:28, 17 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Question Can you provide verfication from reliable sources? We need citations. Otherwise what you suggest is only original research. Peaceray (talk) 19:29, 17 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

I recommend you look at WP:RSP. At least 2/3 of those 'sources' are unreliable. DonIago (talk) 07:36, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, only Vice is acceptable of those three. But just because "independent investigators" call it a homicide does not make it so. But that might be worth adding to the article.  Muboshgu (talk) 18:11, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
The homicide theory comes from an academic paper published in the Journal of Forensic Sciences. It can be found here: https://medwinpublishers.com/IJFSC/a-multidisciplinary-analysis-of-the-kurt-cobain-death*.pdf QuintusPetillius (talk) 21:06, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much for helping increase accuracy in Wikipedia. I have tremendous respect for all of you OG editors and never wanted to step on any toes. All I tried to achieve is to make sure that the Wikipedia page of Kurt Cobain is accurate, neutral, ~2026-10662-06 (talk) 21:20, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Murder vs Suicide

[edit source]

It's been determined that his death was a murder and not suicide like the article claims. ~2026-10949-50 (talk) 17:42, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please cite reliable sources. Also, please consider joining the above conversation instead of starting a new one. 𝓕𝓵𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓲𝓷 (Talk to me! · My contribs) 17:55, 18 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

the thing that gave it away as a murder was probably because the scene was clean and not messy like suicides are. But I did read the thingie on the shotgun and crime scene photos and other stuff. Amuck8750 (talk) 21:44, 22 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure what you mean by "the thingie on the shotgun" but it has been considered that it may be worth adding the claim to the article per the journal of forensic sciences. However, your original synthesis of the photos and details is not relevant. Also, I can find nothing about any amount of heroin in his system at the time. i swear to christ fuck this narative that kurt was murdered kurt 100% died by suicide ~2026-11330-81 (talk) 03:23, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want made. Please detail the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. The article does not claim otherwise. Day Creature (talk) 04:13, 20 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Some people think he was murdered some think it’s suicide

[edit source]

Well you guys know how he injected 10 doses of h**oin on himself? Then how would he be able to pick up his shotgun and kill himself? Because on his 10th dose of h**oin, he would be in a coma. So either he was murdered by a dr*g dealer or he pulled the trigger with an object. Amuck8750 (talk) 21:27, 22 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please provide reliable sources for the claim. 𝓕𝓵𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓲𝓷 (Talk to me! · My contribs) 21:35, 22 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Amuck8750 Sorry, didn't realize that you were the same person from the other section. Ideally, please confine discussion of this to one section. 𝓕𝓵𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓲𝓷 (Talk to me! · My contribs) 21:50, 22 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Someone fix the photo

[edit source]

Unless the horrible tragedy occurs of the new Nirvana band photo being against copyright laws, someone please crop Kurt from the photo and add that as the main image. Please. ~2026-40001-52 (talk) 02:04, 16 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Also, minimal use doesn't apply, because it is a much better photo and is definitely worth it ~2026-40001-52 (talk) 02:10, 16 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Never mind i don't think that's how it works ~2026-40001-52 (talk) 02:11, 16 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Requesting to add cropped image of Kurt Cobain

[edit source]

I'm requesting that this image to be used for Kurt Cobain's article. I also cropped Krist Novoselic out. TalkTuahLunchly (talk) 01:24, 24 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

is it ok if I use this image for Kurt Cobain's infobox? TalkTuahLunchly (talk) 01:28, 24 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
The current photo has been subject of much complaint, and has only been retained due to a perhaps surprising lack of good acceptable-use alternatives. The same photo but with Novoselic cropped out strikes me as even worse. At least the current version is clear that it is in context of a Nirvana performance. CAVincent (talk) 08:04, 24 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Image

[edit source]

The current image is objectively not good. if possible, I would like somebody to change the image to this. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kurt_cobain.jpg Mr roadmanofshrek (talk) 20:13, 2 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Why would anyone do that considering it looks like that image is going to be deleted as a copyright violation? DonIago (talk) 02:12, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
sorry I didn’t see that it was. still, the current image is awful and I think it would still be much of an improvement if we instead used https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Photo_of_Kurt_Cobain_from_US_Embassy_in_Bern.jpg or https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kurt_Cobain_on_Love_Buzz_Big_Cheese_front_cover_(cropped).jpg Mr roadmanofshrek (talk) 03:55, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think those are both worse than the current image, seeing as they are both black and white. This conversation has also already been had here. But I am going to put in a photo request for a better picture right now in case any photographer has a photo of him they're willing to put into free use. Unlikely, I know, but that picture is pretty bad. 𝓕𝓵𝓸𝓫𝓵𝓲𝓷 (Talk to me! · My contribs) 21:14, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
