Where did Gamma chapter go?

At Mississippi, Kappa Sigma Tau's Gamma chapter was reported to have joined "another national", not AZD. Looking at those chapters active on the campus at that time, Gamma may have gone on to revive either Delta Gamma or Delta Zeta: My guess is that it could have been either of these, allowing for a couple of years of independent operation. None of the other chapter histories line up, considering what information is in the Baird's Archive.

• The DZ chapter originally formed in 1926 as a local named Tau Delta. This became the Beta Beta chapter of DZ in 1928. It had a period of inactivity between 1932-1936 when it was re-established.
• The DG chapter originally formed in 1927 as a local named Gamma Delta –This was likely a planned local, using the common naming convention of inverted letters. Later that same year (1927) it became the Alpha Psi chapter of DG, but went inactive one year later, in 1928, a dormancy that lasted until 1936. The Archive says it was restored in 1936 from a colony, but this may actually have been an offshoot of the former KST chapter at Mississippi.

The Delta ZETA chapter has since folded, but the Delta GAMMA chapter remains active. Perhaps the Delta Gamma chapter has a note in their chapter history on their website.

As a third, outside possibility, the Gamma chapter of KST may have merged with one of the few other existing chapters, but this fact isn’t recorded in the Archive. Jax MN (talk) 18:27, 18 September 2025 (UTC)

Since the source that says a merger took place was from the fall of 1932, it makes the most sense that the chapter was planning on merging with an existing sorority, rather that establishing a new sorority chapter. I have looked for all 1933 members of Gamma in the 1934 yearbook. Most appear to have not returned to school. The few that returned were not in a sorority, so it is hard to say what happened. But since we know the 1932-1933 academic year members, there is still a chance to find their names in another sorority's directory. Founding Date

Banta's Greek Exchange vol. 15, no. 1 (1927) notes the founding as April 11, 1921. Note that this is a specific date that was published with a list of current officers. Another source suggests April 1922 is the date the name changed to Greek letters. So, it is possible that the April 1922 date is not correct for Kahniga, but is correct for Kappa Sigma Tau.
