Major changes as part of student course

[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians, I have completed major changes to this page as part of my class project for HENV 680 at Concordia University. I have added numerous new citations to prevent the page from relying on primary sources. As well, I've added sections entitled "history", "products" (with a table including all current products), "activism & sustainability", and "certifications". Thank you for your review! Aspen.iris (talk) 16:59, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I also want to add that I've removed the primary sources warning since I believe I have rectified the issue, to the degree that it was able to be rectified. Aspen.iris (talk) 17:01, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

COI disclosure and request: founding date and founders

[edit]

Hello. I'm John McEachern and I work with Just Us! Coffee Roasters. Because of that relationship, I have a conflict of interest regarding this article, so I'm proposing substantive changes here on the Talk page rather than editing the article directly.

I'd like to begin with a factual inconsistency in the current article. The infobox lists Just Us! as founded in 1995 and names Jeff Moore as the founder, while the lead states that the company was founded in 1996 by Jeff and Debra Moore, David and Jane Mangle, and Ria Dixon.

A Government of Canada publication from 2000 profiling Just Us! lists its “Year of incorporation” as 1996:

https://publications.gc.ca/Collection/A80-924-3-2000E.pdf

I therefore propose changing the founded date in the infobox from 1995 to 1996.

The lead already identifies the five original founders. I also propose making the infobox consistent with the lead by listing all five founders rather than Jeff Moore alone. I am continuing to look for the strongest independent published source explicitly identifying all five founders and would welcome guidance on whether the existing citation in the lead is sufficient for that change.

I have additional independent sources concerning the company's early history, Fair Trade licensing, growth and co-operative structure, but I'll propose those separately rather than combining multiple changes into one request.

Thanks to any independent editors willing to review this. JohnMcEachern (talk) 01:02, 17 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Partly done: I have updated the dates consistently to 1996 and removed the |founder= from the Infobox. Neither source names Ria Dixon (One says Jeff and Deb Moore + 3 others, one names Jeff and Deb Moore and Jane and David Mangle and says there were 5 founders but never says who they were). The current version of the official site page also does not say that the company was founded in 1996, and is silent on the founders other than the Moores.

I have additional independent sources concerning the company's early history

Perhaps those would be of use here? As such none of the sources on the founding are of high quality. The company's official site is of course not independent (and rather vague) and the Co-operatives Secretariat report is promotional and not terribly detailed regarding the founding. COI edit request: lead description of Just Us!

[edit]

Hello. I work with Just Us! Coffee Roasters and have previously disclosed my conflict of interest on this Talk page. I am proposing this change here rather than editing the article directly.

The article currently opens:

"Just Us! Coffee Roasters Co-op is a Canadian importer of fair trade coffee, tea, sugar, and chocolate."

I propose replacing that sentence with:

"Just Us! Coffee Roasters Co-op is a worker-owned coffee-roasting co-operative based in Grand Pré, Nova Scotia. It was Canada's first fair trade and organic coffee roaster."

A 2025 profile published by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada describes Just Us! as a "worker-owned co-operative based in Nova Scotia" and as "Canada's first fair trade and organic coffee roaster":

https://ised-isde.canada.ca/site/cooperatives-canada/en/success-stories/just-us-coffee-roasters-co-op

I believe this more accurately identifies the organization than describing it primarily as an importer, while relying on an independent Government of Canada source.

I'm happy for an independent editor to modify the wording as appropriate. JohnMcEachern (talk) 21:07, 20 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done: The {{request edit}} template is for requesting changes to semi-protected pages. For conflict of interest requests, please use {{Edit COI}} instead. Prolabelmaker (talk) 08:21, 21 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
