Begun in 1978, the massive task marks the first time in Canada that a translation of the whole Bible was accomplished entirely by native speakers of the language rather than by white missionaries.
(Religion News Service)Rev. Benjamin Arreak, Rev. Jonas Allooloo, Rev. Andrew Atagotaaluk and Rev. James Nashak started work on the New Testament and were later joined by Rev. Joshua Arreak.
(Nunatsiaq News) Cathedral dean (Anglican Journal); heavy equipment operator (Saskatoon Star-Phoenix); future mayor (Nunatsiaq News); Order of Canada (Nunatsiaq News); oilfield worker (Calgary Albertan).

(Nunatsiaq News)The translators faced several linguistic obstacles, dealing with Old Testament words and concepts that do not exist in Inuktitut . For example, the language simply has no words for camel, sheep or many other animals mentioned in the Bible, nor for varieties of trees and other flora.
(Globe and Mail) - ALT2: ... that the audio version of Complete Bible in Inuktitut—translated by Jonas Allooloo, Ben Arreak, Joshua Arreak, Andrew Atagotaaluk and James Nashak—was used to train text-to-speech capabilities for the Inuit language? Source:

(Nunatsiaq News)Microsoft Canada and the Government of Nunavut announced Dec. 5 that Inuktitut text-to-speech is available now on Microsoft Translator.... The work included reviewing thousands of government documents, hiring Inuktitut speakers to record themselves, and obtaining hours’ worth of Inuktut audio recordings from the Canadian Bible Society and Nunavut Inuit Heritage Trust, among other organizations.

- Comment: Several notes for whichever saint takes on the review of this six-article meganom. I am submitting this for the 9 August special set for the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples. Only 7 QPQs are required, regardless of what the form says; per WP:DYKUBM, when it is backlog mode one extra QPQ is required for each nomination, not one extra one per article. The hook length for these is over 200 on paper, but per WP:DYK200, the text in boldlinks after the first one does not count toward the 200-character limit. Finally, I had been working on a Jonas Allooloo biography in my sandbox until I discovered to my pleasure a couple days ago that Deborah.artemis had created one on 19 May. My intention had been to create Allooloo's article in mainspace along with the rest of these to facilitate a DYK multinom. I immediately began finishing the rest of the articles. While I know we are outside of the DYK 7-day window for the Allooloo article, we are within the window when I discovered it had been created, and Deborah.artemis has never submitted at DYK before, so on their behalf I would ask for a dispensation on the 7-day window to allow Allooloo's article to appear with the rest of these. All other articles were either created, moved to mainspace or expanded 5x on the day of the nomination. Thank you in advance for reviewing this!

- I take, will review in the next 24 hours.--Launchballer 00:55, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- I'll start with the QPQs. You've actually provided eight; Scattergood is a double nom and counts as two. (There's a reason I snap up multinoms.) The last two I think were quickfailed without pinging, which I think is unreasonable; Blood and Bone closed anyway, so I'll take it. Four of the articles are new creations and Atagotaaluk was a 5x expansion. Allooloo... hmm. That article was actually written more than three weeks ago, but would probably pass at GA (having just done some spotchecks and some minor copyediting, I only wouldn't pass it right now because it needs a fair use image). I'll take it if one is added; ping me if you nominate. No problems with Nashak and Earwig is clean on both; will do the rest another time.--Launchballer 13:19, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- Launchballer Thanks for offering to take a look at GAN. Fair use image added and some additional tweaks done on the Allooloo article; it's now at GAN. Dclemens1971 (talk) 13:51, 11 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, I'll hop on that when I've finished with these articles.--Launchballer 04:20, 12 June 2026 (UTC)
Not seeing anything wrong with any of the other articles and ALT0 checks out. Let's roll.--Launchballer 06:59, 12 June 2026 (UTC)

| For each translation session, the team met in a different Inuit community to be sensitive to the variety of Inuktitut dialects. The team started with the Gospels. Each member translating one, and then reviewed the translations made by the other members; each member then took this feedback to refine their translation. The team published the Inuktitut New Testament in 1991, after which they slowed down work substantially, meeting for only six weeks annually (two sessions of three weeks). | |||||
