AfD acceptance

[edit]

For the record, after some consideration I have decided to accept this at AfD. I realise the sources cited are primary, and some may only offer passing mentions, but I concluded that the person likely meets WP:NACADEMIC #1 and/or #4, on account of his career contributions (including but not only the likely-notable books mentioned). -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:34, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • ... that John Kinloch Anderson interrupted his studies to serve as an intelligence officer in World War II, and then became an archaeologist after the war?

  • Article recently promoted to GA, long enough. Article cited, neutral, BLP-compliant, presentable, with no obvious copyright violations. Hooks are short enough. Images licensed. QPQ done.
  • In terms of the hooks: ALT0 is good to go. ALT1 needs to have "while researching a book" removed, as that is not in the source. The second part of ALT2 is also not a good paraphrase of the source. See below my suggestion for ALT3.

ALT3... that John Kinloch Anderson relied on his knowledge of Asian languages in military intelligence during World War II and his experience as a horse rider inspired his study of ancient Greek horsemanship?

  • In summary, ALT0 is approved. ALT1 needs a slight modification (see above). ALT2 is slightly inaccurate, so I suggested ALT3 instead. Mariamneireach out 🕊️ 07:41, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
    • I like ALT3 and changed ALT1, but ALT2 is accurate. The source says that In his book Ancient Greek Horsemanship, Anderson repeatedly refers to his own experience in handling horses to support his arguments. We could change it to this:
    • ALT2: ... that John Kinloch Anderson relied on his knowledge of Asian languages while serving as an intelligence officer in World War II, and cited his own equestrian experience in a book about ancient Greek horsemanship? Edward056686 (talk) 07:48, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
      • I do not think that "cited his horse riding experience while researching ancient Greece?" is quite an accurate paraphrase of "In his book Ancient Greek Horsemanship, Anderson repeatedly refers to his own experience in handling horses to support his arguments." It means that he discussed his own experience when discussing practices in ancient Greece, but it does necessarily touch on the research. So let's go with ALT0, ALT1 or ALT3, unless you want to reword ALT2. I would recommend keeping it as is, since we have 3 viable hooks. Mariamneireach out 🕊️ 12:35, 25 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
