\Does the statistic "Initial Jobless Claims" refer to new claims ie new people becoming unemployed or is it a cumulative statistic?

Hi! Can someone please clarify this for me. I think I heard it on Bloomberg that only half of those who claim the benefits actually receive them. So for example if the initial claims is 500,000, only 250,000 will actually receive the benefits. Can someone confirm this, and if true, maybe we should put this into the article. M.efimov. Yes, initial claims refer to new claims. Continued claims refer to people who have claim benefits for additional weeks of benefits after their first. And I don't know the exact % of accepted applications, but yes, individuals can apply and be counted in initial claims, but be rejected. SealOfDisapproval (talk) 04:18, 19 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
