Courtesan?

[edit]

Is it confirmed she was a prostitute? The article say she was an actress and dancer. --85.226.44.19 (talk) 15:33, 4 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

I believe it's suggested because her profession as a stand-in actress wouldn't have been enough to make a living before meeting Baudelaire and there isn't any record of her doing any official work. I don't believe knows for sure either way but it is so heavily rumoured that is often stated as fact --Drowninginlimbo (talk) 17:10, 21 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

No, rumors are not facts. Be careful when creating bios. Savvyjack23 (talk) 23:08, 9 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Life beyond Baudelaire...

[edit]

The article's content is relevant to Jeanne Duval's life. It provides basic information about her background as a Haitian-born actress and dancer and her relationship with Charles Baudelaire. The profile discusses her presence in Baudelaire's work and her portrayal in art, literature, and popular culture.

My main impression is that the article lacks structure and detail about Jeanne Duval beyond her role as Baudelaire’s mistress. It presents her life primarily in relation to a man rather than highlighting her own achievements, which leaves a compelling question: What more could we learn about Jeanne Duval if we shifted the focus from her relationship with Baudelaire to her individual accomplishments? AthenaPedia (talk) 16:05, 6 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Only little is known about Jeanne Duval, sadly, but recent research has at least added a few more details. You should check the French version of the article for updates, and/or the version I wrote for the Swedish wiki. Basecam (talk) 18:36, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
