Checking block quotes in "Views on homosexuality"

[edit]

I just formatted some longer quotes. When looking at the source link for the first quote (https://archive.ph/20130102070247/http://www.christianpost.com/article/20080319/31579_Gays_Still_Looking_for_Love_from_Christians.htm), I'm not sure the quote is actually all in one. Could someone verify? Fluxjupyter (talk) 18:49, 21 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Under "Awards": '"The Children's Friend" honor by Childhelp USA (an advocate agency against child abuse) in 1987'. Should add link: '"The Children's Friend" honor by Childhelp USA (an advocate agency against child abuse) in 1987' Remo (talk) 20:49, 21 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Doubt

[edit]

Hi. Could it be a mistaken year on Bundy's section? How did Dobson ask for Bundy's pardon in May 1989? Bundy was already dead then 🤔 181.29.124.231 (talk) 02:12, 22 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Pardons can be posthumous. Slatersteven (talk) 10:09, 22 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
In addition, it says he called for Bundy to "be forgiven", which is different than a pardon, especially in the context of Dobson being an evangelical Christian. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 20:30, 22 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Shower penis quote

[edit]

If you look at the source that quote is from, it says it was written by a different author and Dobson subsequently quoted it approvingly. Dobson did not actually come up with that statement himself. The article should be edited to clarify that. 174.213.247.77 (talk) 04:30, 23 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Looks like that was clarified in this edit by Flod logic about two hours after you brought it up on this talk page. So it's been fixed. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 17:33, 24 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Animal cruelty accusations

[edit]

There should probably be a section in here about Dobson’s treatment of animals. In one of his early books he describes beating up his dachshund with a belt (and uses this as an example for how to treat human children as well). Dobson also wrote about the time he deliberately provoked a fight between two mismatched dogs when he was a child. See: 174.213.240.87 (talk) 05:03, 23 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

unsure this passes wp:undue. Slatersteven (talk) 09:24, 23 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Uploading James Dobson image from 2017

[edit]

Can you upload Dr. James Dobson's image from February 7, 2017? RickFan3800 (talk) 18:56, 24 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Pete Maravich

[edit]

The article on Pete Maravich says he died during a game of pick-up basketball that also included James Dobson; it also quotes Dobson saying what Pete's last words were. I wonder if that is notable enough to include here as well. 174.213.240.87 (talk) 04:07, 25 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Lack of neutrality

[edit]

This article covers the life's work of Dr. Dobson, but it reads more like an attack against him. Most of his work was spiritual and family-oriented, and those are the reasons why he is celebrated by most. Unfortunately, the majority of this article concentrates on opposing LGBT and abortion. Can we remove some of the bulk of the criticism against Dobson and add more from ministry resources reflecting the work he actually did most of the time?

Thanks.

@Ferdilouw No, we don't remove criticism because you don't agree with it. Polygnotus (talk) 02:54, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
What I'm asking is for better balance. Currently that article is leaning strongly over to one side. Ferdilouw (talk) 20:50, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
We go by what RS considers notable. Slatersteven (talk) 09:43, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes. That is what we need.
E.g. the sentence "Dobson's mother ... once gave Dobson a "massive blow" with a girdle outfitted with straps and buckles" has no justification to be there, other than emotional mudslinging.
Can we start to clean up? Ferdilouw (talk) 20:55, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
