Liberal bias?

[edit]

I noticed how my recent edit got reverted and I am wondering what can be done to remove the liberal bias from the page. Any ideas? ~2026-15307-71 (talk) 15:41, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

How about instead of political buzzwords you identify a specific problem you'd like to discuss? AusLondonder (talk) 16:00, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

White supremacist

[edit]

The IP editor appears to be correct about lack of adequate sourcing. The two sources substantiating that claim are a blog from a Maddow Show producer and a single news story from NBC. I don't think that's close to enough to label a living person a white supremacist. voorts (talk/contributions) 23:17, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Note that I've removed the content per WP:BLPREMOVE and it should not be restored until there's consensus. voorts (talk/contributions) 23:28, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
What part of BLPREMOVE applies here? WP:NBC is considered a reliable source. If "white supremacist" is considered unacceptable for BLPs how can we have a whole category tree Category:White supremacists? What sources would you consider sufficient? AusLondonder (talk) 23:46, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
BLPREMOVE #1. It is poorly sourced because it is sourced to the producer of a news opinion program and a primary source news article that doesn't cover the subject in depth. And, in addition to BLPREMOVE, there's MOS:LABEL, which says that contentious labels "are best avoided unless widely used by reliable sources to describe the subject, in which case use in-text attribution". voorts (talk/contributions) 23:50, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Here's Lang doing a Nazi salute outside a Jewish organisation while he warns "White people in America, you will be replaced, and your children will be Black Muslims if you don’t stand up now" but mainstream media reporting that he's a white supremacist is "contentious material"? I suggest reading his full comments at that article which I won't repeat here. AusLondonder (talk) 23:53, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have read the article and know about Lang, and I think his words and actions speak for themselves, but calling him a "white supremacist" in wikivoice is contentious and our PAGs make clear that we need several reliable sources to use such a label.
(Found another part of BLP that applies, WP:BLPSTYLE, which says "Do not label people with contentious labels ... unless a person is commonly described that way in reliable sources." voorts (talk/contributions) 23:58, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
All you need to do to restore the content is find several more sources that use that term to describe him. voorts (talk/contributions) 23:59, 10 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Here are some additional sources which refer to Jake Lang as a "White Supremacist" or "alleged White Supremacist":
1) https://www.nyc.gov/mayors-office/news/2026/03/statement-from-mayor-zohran-kwame-mamdani-on-protests-outside-of
2) https://www.mcall.com/2026/03/08/ied-tossed-at-jake-langan-at-gracie-mansion-anti-islam-protest-was-operational-nypd/ ~2026-13399-37 (talk) 12:16, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
The press release shows Lang being referred to as a white supremacist by Mamdani, not a reliable source itself. The other source refers to Lang as "an alleged white supremacist", which is not the same as explicitly describing him as a white supremacist. ★ The Green Star Collector ★ (talk) 16:15, 14 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Taking out "politician"

[edit]

Lang hasn't raised much money for his campaign, and the JVH article sourced in the article says the campaign's not considered serious. Could we take out the term "politician" for him in the intro? Shelter3 (talk) 00:59, 27 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Is the DOJ a reliable source ?

Minneapolis

[edit]

In the citation number 17, the article says that Jake plead not guilty for that charge, but the entry says, "plead guilty". Which confused me because later in the article it says that there's an upcoming trial date, not sentencing date, but "trial" date. ~2026-34576-04 (talk) 03:05, 12 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

It appears that the change happened 12 March 2026. It may have just been a mistake, happening when "pleaded" was replaced with "plead" and the next word, "not", was dropped. I've restored "not guilty".-- Pemilligan (talk) 03:42, 12 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Add to the Militancy and Political Career section under August 2026:

On August 17, 2026, Jake Lang staged an anti-Islam protest in Dearborn, Michigan. Dubbed the “Christian Crusader March,” the rally attracted Nazi sympathizers and Christian nationalists. 22 protesters were arrested by local police.

If this was meant to refer to the quotation "ban Islam!!", I have removed the exclamation points because they do not appear in the cited source nor in any other source that I could find. -- Pemilligan (talk) 18:37, 23 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Change "is an American far-right activist and political candidate" to "is an American far-right extremist and political candidate". ~2026-46125-86 (talk) 09:19, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done: Besides the fact that you haven't cited any sources to support this, Wikipedia generally avoids the use of contentious labels like "extremist" to describe people. See MOS:LABEL. Day Creature (talk) 15:38, 24 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Jake lang said in an instagram post that His father is of 50% Irish descent and 50% German descent and that he (Jake, that is) identifies as Christian. Therefore Riverrunpastevenadams edit should be reverted. Jake lang is not entirely of jewish ancestry and identifies as Christian so to just flatly call him “ethnically Jewish” isn’t accurate. Also the categories “American people of Irish descent” and “American people of German descent” should be added. ~2026-46578-15 (talk) 22:32, 27 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Partly done, unconstructive edit arrow Reverted, but I see no need to overcategorize the article. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 22:53, 27 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
christianity, unlike judaism, is not an ethnicity, and for the purposes of things such as israeli citizenship, birthright trips, and eligibility for the religon itself Riverrunpastevenadams (talk) 00:40, 28 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
How about you read what I said? I said Lang is of 50% non-Jewish ancestry and Identifies as a Christian. So no, you can’t just go around calling him “a jew” just because you feel like it. Also, you mention jewish law but you are too full of yourself to realize that Wikipedia is a fact-based website. It is not a website based on Jewish law. Many people (such as myself) do not acknowledge Jewish law. ~2026-46578-15 (talk) 02:58, 28 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
