The Spanish article says he was modern. The Catalan article says he was even postmodern. These statements are strange enough to require explanation, which I can't provide. He is most often referred to as post-impressionist on other websites. Maybe they shouldn't be mentioned in the English article. He began his career experimenting with some sort of impressionism, and then went beyond.

The Spanish and Catalan articles seem to claim him as their own. It seems most fair to call him both Spanish and Catalan. There is nothing wrong with fighting over him. His art certainly deserves it. They just shouldn't deny him the other identity.

Spanish identity seems to be strong in Catalonia, given the popularity of Castillian musical styles. This all reminds me of Croats and Serbs fighting over the identity of Nikola Tesla, who actually proudly claimed both identities. This is in line with his personal beliefs about his role in humanity. Croatia built a beautiful museum and grounds at his birth place mere meters from the Serbian Orthodox Church where his father served as priest. ~2025-33658-53 (talk) 10:32, 16 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Subject label is Catalan (from Spain)

[edit]

The principal label for the subject in the first sentence of the lead has changed multiple times between "Spanish" and "Catalan" over the years: diff1,diff2,diff3,diff4,diff5,diff6, etc. Heretofor there has been no discussion of the issue on this Talk page.

The subject is clearly "Catalan" per the article contents, citations, etc., and the now well-established consensus is to use the "Catalan" label in these cases, with the addition of "from Spain", which is useful. The subject's label in the article is therefore changed to "Catalan" ... "from Spain", per this consensus.

There have been multiple RfC's on this question: in 2018 on the Manual of Style/Biography talk page: Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style/Biography/2018_archive#RfC_on_use_of_Spanish_regional_identity_in_biography_leads; on the question of Carles Puigdemont being labeled a Catalan politician Talk:Carles_Puigdemont/Archive_5#RFC_on_nationality, and on Ramon Casas Talk:Ramon Casas#Request for Comment: Subject lead label Catalan or Spanish?, and in all cases the consensus was for the "Catalan" label. In addition the Talk pages for Antoni Gaudí ( Talk:Antoni_Gaudí#Gaudí's Nationality ) and Artur Mas ( Talk:Artur Mas#His nationality ) have extensive discussions on the question, with the consensus to use the "Catalan" label. All of these RfCs and Discussions have had a similar, clear resolution. Bdushaw (talk) 22:11, 5 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

You are obsessed with this issue and your edits seem to be geared only towards this topic, like a special purpose account. There is no consensus; it's an ad hoc fabrication that you try to give an air of naturalness. CFA1877 (talk) 18:31, 6 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
An ad hominem argument, a logical fallacy. And no answer to the above, well-established consensus. Bdushaw (talk) 01:12, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
To other editors, the background to the above comment by User:CFA1877 is the recent identical dispute over the label in the article Ramon Casas. Bdushaw (talk) 01:32, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Bdushaw What consensus are you talking about? The only nationality adapted is Spanish. This person was Spanish. Their region, in this case, doesn't have to be mentioned in the article's header. What you're doing doesn't sound very neutral. Please stop. Lopezsuarez (talk) 05:58, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Explained explicitly above, with at least 3 RfCs refuting your argument regarding nationality. Bdushaw (talk) 08:12, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
To other editors, User:Lopezsuarez also was involved with the identical dispute in the article Ramon Casas. He repeats the "nationality" argument which was not accepted in RfC consensus. Bdushaw (talk) 08:15, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
