IIT → IIT (disambiguation)IIT (disambiguation) – to make way for IIT to be the primary topic as a redirect for Indian Institutes of Technology which pretty much makes it clear. Indian Institutes of Technology has more than 2 times the combined page views in 2019 of all others pages being referred by the acronym "IIT". Also due to the status of these institutes in India and their common name being IIT, it is the clear primary topic Roller26 (talk) 07:57, 27 October 2020 (UTC)

IIT (disambiguation) → IIT – The current redirect from IIT to Indian Institutes of Technology needs global perspectives. In India, IIT primarily refers to the Indian Institutes of Technology. However, in the United States, any Google search will almost always result in the Illinois Institute of Technology at the top. The abbreviation "IIT" should be redirected to a disambiguation page for the sake of global perspectives, rather than serving a specific country or region, which Wikipedia does not intend to do. The thing is, IIT primarily refers to the Indian Institutes of Technology in India. This is not a common usage in other countries or regions around the world. Wikipedia should maintain a global perspective rather than focusing on a specific country or region. Cfls (talk) 18:58, 15 November 2025 (UTC)

Support, Cfls. The argument citing the higher count of page views of Indian Institutes of Technology does not justify the redirect. The view count pertains specifically to the full-name page(Indian Institute of Technology), not to the term IIT itself. Also, we can not ignore the fact that as IIT already redirects there, the view count is artificially inflated and does not reflect users’ original intent of which page they wanted to visit. Page views measure traffic, not semantic ownership, and they do not indicate how many visitors were actually seeking a different meaning of IIT, as it does not have the global wide meaning of Indian Institute of Technology.

‎Secondly, If the proposal was about redirecting the full name(Indian Institute of Technology), that (if would have been done) might mislead readers, but that is not the case here. The proposal is about redirecting of a common term (IIT) referring to various topics (aka a disambiguation page) rather than a topic confined to a specific region.

‎Moreover, Wikipedia is a global platform, especially its English edition. Were this an Indian-language version of Wikipedia, “IIT” might predominantly refer to the Indian Institutes of Technology.
