Change “hermaphrodite” page to acknowledge the harm in its use
[edit]It is a slur against intersex people. The term is defined as being fully male and female, which is impossible. At least have a disclaimer prefacing that mentions it being outdated and possibly offensive. ~2026-33484-80 (talk) 12:45, 7 June 2026 (UTC)
- There may be online fandom communities which believe it is an outdated or offensive term, but there are no reliable sources which confirm this. The term is current in scientific publications, e.g. "Sex chromosomes: how to make a hermaphrodite" (2023); "Low Reproductive Output Suggests That Hermaphrodites Are Unlikely to Spread in a Dioecious Hybrid Willow Population" (2026) NotBartEhrman (talk) 00:20, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
