"Banister" is American too
[edit]This article makes it seem like the term "banister" is used only in British English, but it's used in American English as well. I'd say it's used more than "handrail". 45.49.10.103 (talk) 04:43, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
- British English is to use banister to describe various kinds of handrails and railings, whereas American English is to use banister primarily when describing an interior, usually wooden, balustrade of a staircase of a home. In the majority of use-cases for banister in American English, it is used only to describe the trope of sliding down a banister, with many Americans not knowing, or not using the word outside of this example.
