- Current state of affairs: I believe the rest of the "geology" paragraph is backed up by Kinny 2003 but I can't read the full text to check. Otherwise I should be able to find the few missing citations in Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry. There are some production methods listed there that I don't think are represented in the text here but I can't determine what's useful to include and what would end up repeating what has already been said. B, R, now D?
[edit]There is an error on the page; namely, in the "Alloy" section delta 50 degrees Celsius is shown as 122 degrees Fahrenheit. The correct value is 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Freeze a liter of water. Measure its temperature on both the Celsius and Fahrenheit scale. It will be 0C or 32F. Now, boil it. Measure its temperature on both scales. It will be 100C or 212F The difference between the freezing and boiling points of water is 100 degrees on the Celsius scale, but 180 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale. We can see from this that a change of 1 degree on the Celsius scale is the same as a change of 1.8 degrees on the Fahrenheit scale. If we heat that liter of water to 50 degrees Celsius and measure its temperature on the Fahrenheit scale, we will record a temperature of 122F. Now, boil the water and measure its temperature. We will record temperatures of 100C and 212F. The difference between 122 degrees Fahrenheit and 212 degrees Fahrenheit is 90 degrees, not 122 degrees. And it will be 90 degrees Fahrenheit for any two temperatures measured on the Celsius scale that are 50 degrees apart.
The problem arose from using "Convert" instead of doing the job using an algorithm that did not convert from one scale to the other. Alflyover (talk) 23:11, 9 March 2026 (UTC)
