Orphaned references in Greg Hunt

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Greg Hunt's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "green":

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 15:54, 7 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Seemingly pretty clear PR/COI issues.

[edit]

So starting on 12 Jan 2026 and the last edit on 31 March 2026. @Melbournespotter has added extensively to the page, the majority of which appears to be PR speak, with negative information removed. The user has only ever edited on this page. The photo in the article is one that is from Greg Hunts facebook page and was also uploaded to commons under "own work".

This feels very much like either Greg or someone related to them, making some pretty clear PR edits.Basetornado (talk) 06:16, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

I started contributing to wikipedia recently but havent had time after doing that article. My special interest is political figures who were around during COVID and whilst I do not know Greg Hunt personally (or in any capacity), I felt like there were a lot of details missing (that I used proper references for). I want to have a go at a few more profiles later this year. I have not tried to take out any key information. Sorry if I made any mistakes but overall I think the quality of the article is much higher than before. Melbournespotter (talk) 11:52, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
May I ask where you got the photo, because you listed it as own work and that it was commons. If you have taken it directly from his page, that is not own work and it's doubtful if it's commons.
The issue is that you have written it very PR heavy. There is a lot of fluff that has no need being on a page. "Hunt was one of seven Liberal MPs in the 46th Parliament of Australia who obtained degrees at an Oxbridge or Ivy League university, the others being Alan Tudge, Angus Taylor, Andrew Laming, Dave Sharma, Josh Frydenberg and Paul Fletcher." for example is just fluff and not neccessary in the slightest. "He supported the establishment of Somerville Secondary College, a fully autonomous secondary school in Somerville that was established after years of community advocacy, including work by Hunt and local stakeholders to retain land and expand educational opportunities." This is just the sort of wording you would see on a Liberal Party pamphlet.
"Hunt also completed 5 500km charity walks around his electorate to raise awareness and funds for autism (3) and diabetes (2), supporting the Abacus Learning Centre in Hastings and the Light Up Autism Foundation, among other local organisations." This is particularly egregious.
Sorry, but if this is how you are editing pages, then you should rethink, and rewrite them based on how other pages are done. It needs to be neutral and it shouldn't read like a political pamphlet. Because currently, it is coming across as being written by either Greg or someone with links to him. Especially considering the only page you have edited is this page. Apologies if that is not the case, but the entire page pretty much needs to be rewritten, based on these edits.Basetornado (talk) 14:55, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
