Requested move 5 July 2026

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: moved. Consensus was to move. There was what appeared to be a drive-by !vote, so I excluded it from consensus. Looking at the discussion, there seemed to be a disagreement on whether or not the subject was the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. However as the nom pointed out, the subject is the primary topic due to the page views and per google trends and other editors seemed to agree. Gilberto Mora (footballer, born 2008)Gilberto Mora – Although this is a case of WP:RECENTISM, he has accomplished more relevant honors than his father, including a CONCACAF Gold Cup and being in a World Cup, giving him more prominence and lasting notability than his father, who never played for the national team. @Tbhotch Fully agreed, he's already a far more relevant player. His father could be moved to a subsection, honestly. ~2026-29130-28 (talk) 01:24, 6 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Support: He is by far the most relevant of the name—Chimino (talk) 03:52, 6 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • For anyone claiming there is no primary topic:
  1. Google Trends for "Gilberto Mora Olayo" vs. "Gilberto Mora Zambrano" vs. "Gilberto Mora". . The interest for the term began in 2025, not during the World Cup, as claimed, and evidently not caused by the father, who is located in third place with 1 point of interest, while the other two terms are alocated with 20 and 19 points, respectively. The popularity rose to 8 vs. 100 vs. 86 as of January 1, 2026, still before the World Cup began, as claimed. In January 1, 2027, the tendency will remain favoring Zambrano.
  2. Gilberto Mora (footballer, born 1976) is an article with one single source, sopitas.com, an entertainment blog, that is talking about the son: "¿Quién es Gilberto Mora, hijo de exfutbolista y goleador más joven de la Liga MX?" If he is a contender for primary topic, I'd expect better sources discussing him and not the son. In fact, most of the history of this page has remained as an unsourced stub showing that Olayo only satisfies WP:NFOOTY because he played for four first-division teams, not because his article indicates notability on its own.
  3. The interest within Wikipedia (pageviews) shows that Zambrano is always leading. Following the disambiguation performed on February 24, 2025, Zambrano has always lead the views, while Olayo has had relevant peaks on the same dates Zambrano has had them, something that is not inusual when articles are linked and lead to other similar topics.
  4. Here are the sources for Olayo before Zambrano debuted in 2019 ("with Olayo" / "without Olayo"). As said earlier, minimal coverage or coverage of the son due to technical restrictions with the search.

  • Support: I believe the son has already established himself as the clear and primary search term based on the evidence provided. Although the younger Mora is clearly at the start of his career, he has already eclipsed his father's footballing career based on his individual and national team achievements. The senior Mora has not even had the head manager job yet during his post-playing career and has only worked as an assistant coach or for academies. These are the two major aspects of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Raskuly 🐰 06:08, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • Support evidence presented supports the younger Gilberto Mora as the primary topic. Accesscrawl (talk) 15:50, 20 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose, the bar to be a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC is high: much more likely than any other single topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined ... substantially greater enduring notability [...] than any other topic. I don't think this is met yet. By featuring in the WC he has taken a significant step towards this, but he still has only played 50 professional league matches, and players that shine bright as young players don't always confirm their promise (and become the primary topic for their name). I also wonder if the article on his father represents well the information available, as he played close to 200 professional matches in the Mexical top league & cups, and on es:Gilberto Mora Olayo there are a few sources that are not used on the English Wikipedia page. No oposition to revisiting this in 6 months / 1 year when there is less WP:RECENTISM from the World Cup. Shazback (talk) 19:13, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Refer to Appeal to ignorance // If the article of the father can be expanded, expand it. Tbhotch (CC BY-SA 4.0) 19:15, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, but I disagree that this an appeal to ignorance. You asserted above that the article on Gilberto Mora Olayo does 'not show notability on its own', which I was merely pointing out is a case of WP:UNSOURCEDYET as at least some sources exist. Non-online sources also exist, so we shouldn't just rely on online search trends / hits in this discussion, nor current trends on Wikipedia. I think it is probable that in a year or two the case for WP:PRIMARYTOPIC will be stronger, but currently I don't believe it is met. In terms of usage, it is satisfied, but not long-term notability. This is a personal judgement, so we do not need to agree, but I would ask you to WP:AGF. Shazback (talk) 19:46, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Here are the father's offline sources. You are free to create the article as it is the spirit of Wikipedia, and no one is assuming bad faith on you to use the AGF card. Tbhotch (CC BY-SA 4.0) 20:03, 22 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
  • Opppose for the very first thing that was said: this is a case of recentism. The kid is 17. Let's just wait this out a little bit. If he continues to be much more relevant than we'll have our answer. Right now, this move is premature in my view. Paul Vaurie (talk) 22:36, 24 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
