Barlaam of Calabria and Edward Lear

[edit]

Barlaam of Calabria, Orthodox theologian and Greek mentor to the poet Petrarch, served as bishop of Gerace from 1341-42 till his death in 1348. Edward Lear, British nonsense-verse writer (e.g., "The Owl and the Pussycat"), painter, and traveler visited Gerace during his 1840s sojourn in Southern Italy. Plaques mark houses in the town where they are both claimed to have resided. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.109.151.178 (talk) 05:45, 8 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
