Svānandaloka?

What is Svānandaloka, I have never heard of it as a loka which Ganesha resides 2601:600:8D00:D230:693B:682A:3A1C:FAD5 (talk) 00:36, 19 June 2024 (UTC)

Main image

I think the main image should be changed to an picture that looks more like a more common representation of Ganesha, like the Dagdushetha Halwai Mandir murti or the Lalbaugcha Raja.

Ganesa beyond india and hinduism

Hello,i just removed the image and description of ghana hindus from the aforementioned topic because it seemed really unfit there,as the topic was made to show the spread of Ganesh image and worship during the ancient and medieval era in Asia.His worship in Ghana is a completely unrelated and modern phenomenon.Also,the image was puted there in a kinda messy way so it was visually polluting the topic.Just to clarify it 187.183.203.189 (talk) 22:21, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

@Remsense Why shouldn't the image be replaced? The photo of Lalbaugcha Raja I put is a more typical representation of Ganesha.

Thanks for your patience. From what I understand, for such religious figures in general, we tend to prefer older depictions—not because they're older, but in that they tend to represent more branches of the tradition, as it were. Reinforcing this, the lead images in featured articles tend to be chosen for good reasons strongly rooted in site policies. I'll ping @Abecedare, who participated in selecting this image for its first appearance on the article back in 2007 (!). Remsense ‥ 论 22:57, 11 March 2025 (UTC)

I think using older images from cave temple complexes such as https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:6th_century_Ganesha_Badami_Caves.jpg or https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lord_Ganesha_at_cave_-15_Ellora.jpg might be better, then. Also, the articles for Shiva and Kartikeya use much more recent depictions.

To add to what Ramsense said: two other factors that come into play are encyclopedic value (attested by sources) and image quality. The current lede image is literally a museum quality painting whose iconography has been commented upon in detail in a scholarly work on exactly that topic and the image is of sufficiently high quality. Note also that the article already contains, as it should, other images of contemporary idols of the deity in the Worship and festivals section although frankly those can be improved upon in both framing and photographic quality.
