pGEX promoter
[edit]"Examples of E. coli expression vectors are the pGEX series of vectors where glutathione-S-transferase is used as a fusion partner, and the pET series of vectors which uses a T7 promoter." Both pGEX and pET vectors have a T7 promoter. This sentence implies that only pET vectors do. I changed it. --Felix Tritschler (talk) 20:29, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- I believe you are wrong here. See for example here where it says the promoter is tac (i.e. a fusion of lac and trp) promoter. Since this is a commercial site selling the product, I would be inclined to believe it to be true, but if you have other sources that say otherwise do give them. For now the edit will be reverted since there are many sources that say it is not T7. Hzh (talk) 21:21, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out, sorry for the confusion, I was wrong.
More examples
[edit]The pET vector is quite famous; also of others. It would be nice if wikipdia could describe a few of these vectors - not all, but perhaps those that were more famous from a historic point of view; and highlighting just a few things about them each. perhaps ... a total of 5 vectors, one paragraph each. Could be a separate subpage, but linked in from the main wikipedia article here. I actually came to wikipedia for the pET vector but there is not a lot of specific information about it here, or at the least I could not find it. 2A02:8388:1643:D680:9833:F0F0:D743:4AC9 (talk) 10:32, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
- If you click on the reference after the sentence that mentioned the pET, you will find an old manual for the vector. There should be enough information there, but if you want to updated manual, you can find it here - . This article is meant to be a general article on expression vector, therefore it cannot give too much details on any specific vector. Arguably you can have an article on pET itself, but that will depend on whether someone will want to spend time writing that article. Hzh (talk) 17:13, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
Table as overview
[edit]Would it be useful to consider adding a table as overview? Not a huge table, mind you, but say, 10 entries in that table to give an overview of how many nucleotides, when the vector was first and so forth. The idea would be to just add some useful information that visitors can quickly take up, without having to go through the full content of the article. ~2026-21970-63 (talk) 07:02, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
- You can always give it a go and see how it looks. It would need to be useful, not just a collection random facts of minor significance. Hzh (talk) 11:30, 17 May 2026 (UTC)
