The 2024 guidebook by George Azzopardi says on page 12
Antonio Annetto Caruana, the librarian of the National Library in Valletta and curator of the archaeological collection housed within it, was called in to investigate the remains discovered. Excavations under his direction brought to light most of this rich Roman townhouse.
This contrasts with Anton Bugeja's 2004 article which says:
Caruana has often been considered responsible for excavations at the Roman Domus but his contribution was mainly linked to being a member of the supervising committee and to writing his excellent memoir about the site. The available documentation reveals that it was Galizia, in his capacity of Superintendent of Public Works, who was mainly responsible for the excavation and documentation of the site. This overlooked fact is surprisingly also attested by Caruana's own writings.
While the latter is more detailed, it might be worth explaining the conflict in the article since the museum seems to favour Caruana as the leader of the excavations. Richard Nevell (talk) 22:29, 1 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
