IPA

The pronunciation in IPA is currently not correct. It is not j as "yes". It is just some kind of [i]. I don't know how to correct it, so I leave it as it is. MauriceM3 (talk) 09:54, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Bartok

Very bizarre article. It doesn't tell much about what Doina is, it just says it's influenced by Turkish or I don't know what. First of all, what Bartok wrote is not to be taken into account considering the date of that writing - after Trianon. It seems to me he was full of prejudices against the Romanian folklore. He was a Hungarian nonetheless and his chauvinism transpires in every word written in that book regarding Romanian folklore and Romanians in general. And all of this without any kind of evidence to sustain its offensive POV. How come if it's inspired by Turkish you cannot find anything like this in Turkish or in the folklore of nations that were clearly and massively influenced by Turkish folklore, like in the Balkans South of Danube. The spreading of Doina also supports the fact that this form of song has nothing to do with the Turks.

As for Garfias, he made some strange connections also, but while he may be wrong, we cannot suspect him of bad intentions. It is not scientific to study Romanian folklore only with the intention of finding Turkish influences. In fact, Bartok praised the Romanian folklore. The problem is that some Romanians select from Bartok's writings only what they like - everything that contradicts their nationalistic pride is garbage. Bartok's statement was made after analyzing hundreds of songs and no musicologist thought he was biased. Just some Romanians didn't like him talking about the foreign influences and turned him into an anti-Romanian demon. Per WP:DPT, there's supposed to be rationale. Let's see if we can surmise one from the standard stats:

• WikiNav view of clickstreams here doesn't show much, the #1 identifiable outgoing destination is Doină cu noduri, and the hatnote destination isn't visible. It's possibly within the 49 filtered clickstreams, but probably <10. Not a particularly good argument for ambiguity, usually. Same view of clickstreams at the disambiguation list shows too little traffic to show the first graph, and 10 clickstreams total. Likewise not usually an indicator of a lot of ambiguity in usage.
• All-time mass views for all items linked here shows this article at the top averaging 32/day, with others far behind, at 7/day for the poem, 1/day etc. Still, one of the items is another list, for the given name, so we can check the all-time mass views for all items linked there. This is where we do see Doina Bumbea 67/day, Doina Cornea 21/day, Doina Ciobanu 13/day, Doina Melinte 12/day, and another four biographies (8, 5, 2, 2 per day, respectively). This does indicate a fair bit of ambiguity in usage.
• A Google Books search for doina shows me mostly results about music on the first two pages, though it's not particularly focused, because a lot of the results aren't in English-language books.

I suppose an argument could be made that all of these topics are pretty niche, and it's hard to compare the significance of any topic to the others in a way that is overwhelming to the average English reader. --Joy (talk) 17:11, 23 August 2026 (UTC)

• Oppose and speedy close The music genre gets more pageviews than everything else called this. It also "has been included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage" so there is no doubt as to its longterm significance. You give no argument why it cannot be primary, so I suggest speedy close as the issue in the last nomination was not addressed. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 04:11, 23 September 2026 (UTC)
