Dry Dock History

[edit]

Would there be any objection to adding a column (or two) for dry dock dates and locations to the table of ships under Current? Most of the references would come from The Disney Cruise Line Blog. Should it go before or after the images?John Rotunni (talk) 15:18, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

picture of the newbuilt

[edit]

What preaks against the picture of the newbuilt? That's the ship under construction, the former Global Dream, due to the Disney company and the shipyard. commons:Category:''Global Dream'' (ship, 2021) [Disney Cruise Line Announces Acquisition of Ship with Plans to Visit New Markets - Disney Cruise Line News (dclnews.com)] [Press Detail (meyerwerft.de)]. Now we have a column named Image in the table without any image. HenSti (talk) 09:13, 20 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Changing Triton to Wish Class

[edit]

Hey! Just wondering why my edit was reverted? Just wanting to understand if this was just poor editing by me or if you guys assumed this was not true? If you want me to source where this is from I can! Here is the official blog post where at the bottom they call it the Wish Class. Any issues happy to know! StuartDA (talk) 20:22, 30 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

IDK who was changing that stuff previously, but if you see anybody calling it the Triton-class again, please feel free to change it back as soon as you can! Davidng913 (talk) 22:00, 20 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Including characters and sponsors in table

[edit]

This has been carried over from the previous List of Disney Cruise Line Ships page. Please read accordingly before making any further edits to the fleet list table. Thank you all. --Davidng913 (talk) 21:59, 20 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Magical Golden Whip I'd like to discuss the inclusion of the "Characters" and "Sponsors" columns. While I understand these details are part of the ship's identity, I believe they should be removed from this table for the following reasons:

  • Usability and Layout: The table is currently overextended, exceeding the standard desktop viewport even on large monitors. Removing these columns would improve readability and prevent horizontal scrolling.
  • Data Comparability: Sortable tables are most effective for comparing standardized data points (like tonnage, year, or capacity). Characters and sponsors are unique attributes that don't benefit from being sorted or compared.
  • Reducing Redundancy: This information is detailed within the individual vessel pages. A high-level list like this should prioritize essential data rather than niche details.
  • Scope: While interesting to enthusiasts, including these columns moves the list toward fancruft. We should keep the focus on information that is of general interest to the average reader.

In light of these points, I propose we remove these columns to keep the table clean and functional. RickyCourtney (talk) 20:45, 11 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Perfectly fine with the removal. The list of characters can be included in the each individual page about the ship. Davidng913 (talk) 02:21, 24 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Davidng913 Thanks. I'm also thinking the Individual ship descriptions under the Current fleet section is rather redundant. Any opposition to removing those, after verifying the information is on the individual ship pages. -- RickyCourtney (talk) 04:11, 24 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yeah we can get rid of that too. Everything is more detailed under each individual page. Davidng913 (talk) 14:10, 24 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
lol, I just came to the page because I wanted to find what ship had sorcerer mickey (which ended up being 2 ships) without going to individual ship pages. Felt like I was going crazy because I could have sworn they were here last time I checked. Oh well though. ~2026-10034-07 (talk) 06:22, 24 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
The character and sponsor details are at the end of the table as to keep the more vital information first. If someone wants to compare the sponsors of multiple ships localizing the information to this table afford that. If it is only on each ships page it becomes laborious. If you feel this table isn't the best place perhaps creating a new second table with these types of details would be a good alternative. Lefferage (talk) 14:45, 5 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
What purpose does this data serve in helping people make comparisons, the primary purpose of a table. Furthermore is this not WP:TRIVIA? RickyCourtney (talk) 17:10, 5 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
This offers differences between the specific vessels and like one of authors above stated they were interested in which ship had Sorcerer Mickey, this would be the source for such information. This would be no more trivia than the gross tonnage or passenger capacity is. Lefferage (talk) 17:25, 5 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Gross tonnage and capacity are standard specifications that allow meaningful comparison across ships.
I understand the desire to have unique details like characters and sponsors visible at a glance. However, as I’ve noted earlier in this discussion, tables should focus on information that supports meaningful comparisons.
These details are better suited to the individual articles rather than the fleet overview table. RickyCourtney (talk) 23:47, 5 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I would disagree as people can meaningfully compare as there is no way to easily compare these details if they are spread across eight or more articles. What would be the major problem with having them at the end of the table. It would in no way detract from the table. But again if you feel this would be better in a separate table, that would be ok also. Lefferage (talk) 00:51, 6 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Since this has been readded so often, I decided to comment, honestly I don't agree with removing the information from the table. For one it is important for an easy look up instead of having to search each page for information for a quick way to see what ship they are interested in. Magical Golden Whip (talk) 21:18, 3 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
The fleet table is meant to provide a concise, comparable overview, not act as a catch-all lookup. As I've noted, characters and sponsors don’t support meaningful comparison like standardized data (e.g., tonnage, capacity, year), and including them shifts the table toward WP:TRIVIA while also hurting readability. Ease of lookup alone isn’t sufficient justification—otherwise every unique detail would belong here. RickyCourtney (talk) 00:22, 4 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
I’m going to disagree with you on this. This page is about the ships of the DISNEY cruise line. Not about any other ships. Disney ships are unique in that they each have a specific character that acts as the “symbol” or “host” for the particular ship. Since the table is comparing the different ships in the Disney fleet, and the specific character is part of the ships identity, it would be helpful to include it to help differentiate each ship from the other.
If this was a list comparing all cruise ships across all cruise lines, I might agree with you. But it isn’t. ~2026-16334-01 (talk) 22:51, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

In light of the recent responses I have seen on this discussion, I’ll add my own response.
It is literally not hard at all to look up each individual page dedicated to each ship. They do a better job of listing the sponsors and characters than it would on this page. What we could keep, however, are the ship flags and any notes that aren’t about the characters or godparents. That’s something almost every other cruise line fleet listing has included. Davidng913 (talk) 19:22, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
What do you mean by ship flags? RickyCourtney (talk) 19:47, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
The port of registry flag; however it’s more than likely not needed here since all ships are registered in the Bahamas (if the Japan ship is registered elsewhere we can include them when the time comes). Davidng913 (talk) 00:22, 23 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
It just seems unnecessary at this time. All vessels are flagged in the Bahamas at this time. Only one vessel has a notable note (which is already covered in prose) and that column seems to just be inviting others to add this other information we have discussed. RickyCourtney (talk) 16:43, 26 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Then yeah let that stay off. We can add it back should the ship for Japan be registered in a different port, which I find most likely to happen. I kinda don't agree with the removal of the images but will not object either. Davidng913 (talk) 19:18, 3 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
While it's not hard to look up the information, it's more of an ease of access of the information instead of looking in several places and one place to compare the ships. Magical Golden Whip (talk) 19:57, 20 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Should we give a mention to this somewhere on the page?

JECWV (talk) 13:34, 12 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Definitely yes, I really think this incident is not receiving enough coverage. Tried looking for this on Wikipedia and surprised for finding nothing which is pretty stupid. I propose a separate article, but for now it will probably be better to create a section, then later split. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Fortek67 (talk) 15:46, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Btw - I have notified all WikiProjects that are of interest of this article about your message. Fortek67 (talk) 15:51, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
What should I put it under? JECWV (talk) 02:02, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Possibly under History, or an entirely new section? Create a History section for now, then we will see what other editors think of it. Fortek67 (talk) 15:05, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I tried adding a heavily sourced section and it was reverted by @Magical Golden Whip. Could you explain why the incident which happened on a disney cruise line wouldnt have anything to do with the disney cruise line? JECWV (talk) 03:42, 15 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm a bit dubious really. What the reports come down to is that 27 workers SOME of whom worked for Disney have admitted to viewing kiddie porn. It's not really that significant in a company of Disneys size and there is no evidence that customers were involved Lyndaship (talk) 15:57, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
