Biased article

The article is written in a pretty biased tone, often arguing for David unnecessarily. Too much opinion, too little facts. I've edited out some stuff.

They could not deny his musical talents, yet sneered at his preference for western music influences, his 'indie' way of producing his music in LA and his independence from the big record companies." "If that was the real problem, 80% of the albums produced in Taiwan will not be eligible for GMA nomination either." "David Tao is not a very prolific singer/producer but he has achieved much more than other Chinese singers who have ten or more albums to their name. Most critics now tend to compare him disparagingly with younger singers/writers/producers, forgetting that David made his name without the backing of a major record company, without any kind of hype as the next so and so, without knowing that he will be wildly successful in shaking up the Chinese entertainment world. He was the first to show both Chinese singers and listeners that music has no boundaries and the others that came after him benefited from his bold, happy successful attempt to break new ground in the conservative world of Chinese music."

I hope this can be understood. I suggest that those interested in editing this article can give Lee Hom and Jay's article a read. I'm using these two as examples for familiarity. Their articles are not exactly the most well-written, but their tone is in the right direction.

I have edited David Tao's article extensively at the time of this post, although unfortunately this is the best I could offer in terms of re-arrangement of the entire article. I have also removed various parts of the original article which would have slight nuances of bias.

Author is biased

He meant that, despite his efforts to 'create' his own style of music. The taiwan 'golden melody awards' have not selected him into the nominee list for the previous few years... He really not did get nominated for a few years.

That was because of his remarks, earlier than any other artistes during those days. He was sort of a pioneer, I suppose, for being the first person to stand up and say the entire GMA concept is sort of like "fen zhu rou", or lit. "giving out (free) pork meat". It was only as recent as this year that people have stood up and said the same thing all at once, which may or may not indicate his (or perhaps his ideas'!) influences.

Still, this kind of trivia doesn't need to appear in the actual encyclopedia. After all, we're not supposed to support him since as writers, we need to keep in line with NPOV. Pasonia 12:31, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Sounds more like a personal essay

In that this article reads more like a personal essay/biography on David Tao rather than an encyclopedic (neutral) entry on David Tao's biography and list of accomplishments. I like David Tao, but I think that this article needs a complete overhaul. Such horrible grammar too! Axistence 01:03, 23 September 2005 (UTC)

This is not biased. David Tao didn't like the way of GMA giving out awards like giving away sliced up pork (fen zhu rou) to anyone who attended their ceremony, and voiced it out openly. Would GMA allow David Tao to be nominated after this?

Needs to be more encyclopedic

As a fan of his music, I agree with the view that the article needs to be more encyclopedic. It just does not read like what an encylopedia article should be.

I suggest splitting up part of the article into sections, such as 'Biography', 'Early Career (1997-2001)', '(2002-current)', 'Issues', 'Albums', etc, for easier reading.

There are also issues regarding NPOV that needs to be corrected. The biography section should be more factual. Perhaps there should be a section 'Issues/Controversies' to accomodate these instead of putting them right into the biography section.

Hold on there...

Man, I really don't get what the fuss is all about here. Encyclopedic? Grammar? Man, are you guys taking things a wee bit too seriously? The man is way too early to go into any encyclopedia in any case. Chides aside (rhymes!) I thought that it was a good read, with a dramatic punch to add. Plus, the author provided lots of infos, seemed like a huge fan. gasp, maybe it's the man himself!!!

I have a couple of questions for those in the know.

1.How long did Mr.Tao intend to keep the mysterious keep-them-guessing-dont-let-them-see-my-face image that he was obviously putting up at the beginning?

2.Airport 10.30 contained obvious references to the film Chungking Express (stewardess, model airplanes, old buildings, big sunglasses). Was it Mr.Tao's idea or is redsocietyfilms the music-video-making arm of the Chinese Communist Party?

3.Most importantly, with reference to Airport 10.30 again, does he like Sonic Youth? I personally find their music rather hard to digest...

I still have some nagging questions, but we'll wait and see if answers turn up at all.

Didn't David go to UCLA? I was hoping it would mention that in the article.

Remove NPOV dispute heading?

The article has largely been rewritten. I guess the NPOV thing can be removed. Any objections?

There are separate pages for each CD, but I don't know if they're linked at all. They're definitely not linked under the "Discography" section.

Possible sources for un-cited information

In looking for sources regarding information written about Tao's life, like his LAPD job and having attended Bethany school, I found some blogs which do cite sources for these facts. I am not able to access these sources, but I hope someone else here can.

This blog post refers to an interview with Tao called "Not The Normal Christian Life — An interview with pop singer David Tao" in a Christian magazine called Impact, but I have not been able to find the article by quick search. https://taozhe.blogspot.com/2004/07/not-normal-christian-life.html
