Revival Speculation
[edit]I thin it would be worth a mention of the #BringBackCrystalPEPSI hashtag started by L.A. Beast in the Revival Speculation section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.106.46.195 (talk) 09:45, 20 June 2015 (UTC)
Crystal Pepsi coming back?
[edit]This has been added, but with no citation. Any idea as to whether it's true or not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.60.167.105 (talk) 16:47, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
Simpsons
[edit]there is another simpsons episode to mention crystal cola. In the episode, a character reminises about the product. I cannot rememeber the episode though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.229.181.173 (talk) 01:34, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Parodies
[edit]I expanded the bullet about Human Giant in the Parodies section. Technically, though, those aren't all parodies. Just because Crystal Pepsi appears in a TV show, that doesn't necessarily make it a parody. Perhaps the "Parodies" section should be renamed. --scott
- Agreed and done. Renamed "Pop Culture References" (pun intended). --BizMgr (talk) 13:52, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
Clear versus clear-colored
[edit]I just changed "clear-colored" to simply "clear." Perhaps I'm being a bit too picky, but clear isn't a color where I come from. Maybe someone could do further research which may warrant a description such as transparent or translucent or whatever.Gabenowicki 02:46, 12 January 2006 (UTC)
- "Clear" on its own is a bit ambiguous. "Clear-colored" doesn't sound right either. Somewhere in the article is a reference to "color-less" sodas - how about that? Rd232 talk 08:54, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Water-looking. Another description.
Market failure
[edit]Just a note on why this failed, from my experience (on a short detour from working on New Coke). I remember shortly after rollout, a lot of the supermarket chains started putting their own clear colas out (it couldn't have been that hard to just leave the caramel coloring out of the syrup). Not all of these tasted so good (I remember in upstate New York, the word got out pretty quickly to avoid Wegman's Diet Clear Cola). Crystal Pepsi had all the brand awareness, however, and took the flack for these tasteless imitations. Any research out there on this question? Daniel Case 17:11, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
- Here's my experience: Crystal Pepsi was priced as a premium brand, never on sale for the price I could get regular Pepsi at. Anyone else experience that? Any research that could be worth including in the article? --Keeves 03:33, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- I just remember going to Smiths to buy a box of it & being peeved (for years) when it wasn't there & continued not to be....followed by Cactus Cooler (fruit soda sold only in rural areas of like, 2 states), Pineapple Fanta (their orange is so nasty), & Chocolate Cherry cola, which never made it to any shelf in any store I ever shopped at.
Another Clear product
[edit]Does anyone remember Crystal Clear Amaco Ultimate (Gasoline)????
- I do. It came out around the same time Crystal Pepsi came out. Clear was the hip thing during those times, it seems. 161.225.129.111 15:34, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- It was indeed, actually starting with Ivory's reformulation and marketing in 1991. As best as I can tell, Pepsi was the first company to take that extension further than consumers could follow, but because of the amount of marketing they put into it, many others followed suit in 92 and 93 (including Coke's Tab Clear and the aforementioned Amaco Ultimate). The problem being that clear still meant "mild" and "clean" to Ivory customers, but meant "mild" and "tasteless" to many Pepsi consumers. I've added some referential links about that era in marketing to the article for those who want to read a little more. It's definitely a case of someone at Pepsi convinced everyone to buy into a very faulty concept. I'd love to know what the total marketing expenditure from all the combined "clear" products was during that time, vainly trying to convince consumers that clearer was better. --BizMgr (talk) 04:09, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
I Remember...
[edit]The first and only time I had this was when I was about 9 sneaking into the Faulkner Hospital's vending machine room with my friends (this is what we did for fun and adventure) and then in a sugar crazed frenzy we would proceed to the parking garage and jump off the back of it. This was especially fun when it snowed and they would plow all the snow form the top most level over the edge and create large snow piles to land in on the ground.
Another more funny (less relevant, but funny nonetheless) aspect of this memory is seeing the many many home made bongs made of small plastic bottles with a hole punched in the side, a straw inserted in said hole, and some foil on the opening on the top to act as a screen and not knowing what it was at such an age. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, "Rejoice O young man in thy youth..." (and ignorance)
The Faulkner Hospital, as I remember it (before the renovations), may be viewed in the movie Southie featuring Mark Walberg for those who are interested. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.60.17.221 (talk) 03:17, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Crystal Pepsi cap contest
[edit]I vividly remember flipping bottles over myself looking for winning caps. I cannot seem to find any media coverage of it, though. Which seems strange. Anybody else have any luck?
On the up side, I've pretty much got everything else referenced now. --BizMgr (talk) 04:02, 28 January 2008 (UTC)
- Seems like a "duh" concept since any clear soft drink in a clear bottle would show anything under the label. With Sprite, they use green-colored plastic to cover it over. But this is just logical and I don't think it would actually need to have some sort of media coverage. But I guess the Wiki-rules apply to all or they apply to none.

David Novak
[edit]David Novak (CEO of YUM! brands) wrote a book in 2007 called "The Eductation of an accidental CEO". He was the creator of Crystal Pepsi, and in his book talks about how he went through with idea despite "warning signs", specifically negative feedback from Don Kendall (founder of PepsiCo)and the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Association. In Dec., 2007 Novak was interviewed by Judann Pollack in Advertising Age. In the interview he says that Crystal Pepsi was his worst marketing mistake. He also says that Crystal Pepsi was ahead of it's time and that it could have been sucessful if managed properly. This is my first time to participate in Wikipedia so I'm not really sure how it works. Any advice would be helpful! If anyone wants to use this info. feel free. Mexico availability
[edit]Pepsi Clear was sold in some mexican cities for some months in 2008 but it's hard to find now. It didn't taste a lot like the original Pepsi, it had a rather citric flavor added. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.169.152.83 (talk) 22:29, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
In Pop Culture
[edit]This is a pop culture icon for being pure 90's. Mentioned by the Simpsons, I Love The 90's, the Cinema Snob and more makes this big enough to warrant one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.241.202.234 (talk) 21:31, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
And the majority of Youtube videos where people bought old bottles of Crystal Pepsi's apparently some guy found in a warehouse and sold on Ebay, don't forget that.
Low shelf life
[edit]I have been told by a Pepsi employee about the short shelf life of this product. Anyone knows if this is true? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brunofvalli (talk • contribs) 19:39, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
Removed Stanford paper
[edit]The statement "Initial sales were good but quickly fell" would need a different source entirely, not just an additional source. The paper in question has only one statement about Crystal Pepsi: "On the other hand, despite extensive market research that suggested likely success as well as Pepsi’s large marketing budget, consumers evidently had a strong preference against a caffeine-free, clear cola (known as “Crystal Pepsi”)." Not only is the source of this information not given in the paper, but it doesn't even imply the sentence that was in the article.

Revival Speculation The first Facebook like page to bring back Crystal Pepsi was created on July 23, 2011. https://www.facebook.com/BringbackCrystalClearPepsi by Neal Enright. Then in September 2014 The Coca-Cola Company re-introduced the soft drink Surge, leading to speculation in the public and amongst media about the return of Crystal Pepsi.[10] Then the Bring back Crystal Clear Pepsi page reached out to LA Beast in April of 2015. He responded with a video directing his fans to the Facebook page. Offering a t-shirt giveaway to all that supported. Afterwards the following of supporters reached into the tens of thousands. LA Beast himself raising money on a gofundme page for 15 billboards erected around the Los Angeles area, and a commitment to ride a mobile billboard truck at Pepsi's Purchase, New York headquarters on June 15 & 16, 2015.[12][13][14][15] The interest from this campaign led to an official response by Pepsi Co. on June 8, 2015, which indicated that Crystal Pepsi would be making a comeback.[16][17] Thespaceninja (talk) 20:38, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Looks like you wish to add in something about the "first Facebook page". Need reliable sources to comment on this first. Cannolis (talk) 20:45, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Crystal Pepsi is back
[edit]If anyone was wondering if Crystal Pepsi made a return, yes it did. I just bought one from a mini mart here in Oregon. Here is a picture for proof: http://i.imgur.com/miDgzLU.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:1C1:8A01:4BC0:9158:A7C5:8C25:53D1 (talk) 21:53, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
Reliable sources required
[edit]To back up the claims that Crystal Pepsi is back, and in what territories - reliable sources are required. Please provide these before adding content again, thanks.
What defines a reliable source can be identified in this article. Chaheel Riens (talk) 15:49, 19 August 2018 (UTC)
Infobox image
[edit]TAC PlazaMaster, with regard to the proposed infobox images, I would personally say that neither are the best - the original image has excessive lens flare that disguises the actual crystal clear aspect, and the new image has condensation that does the same thing - you cannot see the crystal clear contents.
The infobox should be the best image to represent the article subject, and of the two, I'd say that the original is just - and only just - the best option as it does show the clarity. But I'd be on the look out for an alternative to both.
Finally, I think that Smuckola needs to moderate their edit summaries - frustration aside, the image certainly is not "garbage". Chaheel Riens (talk) 07:47, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
Countering misinformation of Crystal Pepsi release in EUR/AUS
[edit]"It was briefly sold in Australia and United Kingdom" without any source and without any more mention about it (a complete contrast to Tab Clear). I could tell from my instincts that this sounded like it may not be so accurate. And I remember this article for many years used to say it was released in "Europe" before it actually came to America...
This made me do a lot of research to try and see whether these claims are fact or fiction. Firstly I looked into the full history of this article to see when these "releases" were added. This article was created in April 2004 originally and it only said US and Canada at the time. After that:
- On 9 Sep 2004, an editor added "In Europe, Crystal Pepsi was sold for a longer time." without a source. Eventually some time it turned into "It was first sold in Europe in the early 1990s.", still unsourced and unverified. Finally someone rid of this in 2022.
- After this, a mention that it was released for a "short time" in Australia was added by an IP editor on 12 Feb 2006. This was also unsourced and unverified and STILL is to this day almost 2 decades later (!).
- The claim that in addition to Australia it was also released for a "short time" in the UK was added by an IP editor in 2017. Again this was unsourced and has never been checked until now.
Well I took it on myself to find out. I searched everywhere on the web, also in other languages (I know Spanish well and I checked Spanish sources) and I looked into newspaper archives specifically for British and Australian papers. Guess what, there is NO reliable mention or confirmation at all that Crystal Pepsi was released in either of those 2 countries. In fact, I have found proof of the opposite instead! 2 articles from the latter half of 1993 including a quote from PepsiCo Australia itself that they are launching Pepsi Max and not a clear or Crystal product. Similarly British newspaper sources from 93 mirror it saying that crystal is a product the company launched in America and that there are no plans for a local release, and these were the ONLY mentions of crystal/clear Pepsi in a wide range of British archived newspapers. In addition a German mag source from 1992 says that Crystal Pepsi is a brand new American drink and that there are no plans for a local launch, which disproves the other point that it was "first sold in Europe in the early 1990s".
Yup I have just proven that all 3 of these claims that have been on this article for years long were all false! I am also a bit sad now because the supposed "Europe early 1990s" and "short time" releases in Australia and Great Britain have been published in modern media all clearly sourcing Wikipedia which itself were false! This is an unfortunate example of circular reporting. Last week I uncovered the very same thing on the article List of countries with McDonald's restaurants. There have been claims that McDonald's was active in Iran until 1979 but this is a false statement that was made on Wikipedia and has been reported in modern media. You can read it on that Talk page if interested.
Anyway now that we know this, I am modifying this article so that it only says Canada and US releases. I will also specifically source my findings with footer notes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 3marish (talk • contribs) 15:56, 12 September 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know what you have proven, really. I vividly remember drinking Pepsi Clear in Norway in 1994/95, especially when they gave up and sold the remaining stock at heavy discounts. A quick search brings up a lot of discussions on forums about it, and a few news stories. And Norway is neither Canada nor the country south of it. So I am pretty damned sure it was sold in Europe. Bobbyshucks (talk) 21:38, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
- I have proven that an Early 90s release in Europe was not true, as well as that limited release in Britain was not true neither Aus (as this would have been reported in local newspapers of the day). Having said that, I think you might be right about there having been a Euro release, because I did get a lead on Germany specifically in 94 I think but I wasn't able to completely confirm and verify it as a fact. Point is, unsourced claims should simply not be added to the article until we can confirm. Perhaps the lack of media sources if true is only more that the releases were incredibly limited in a few test areas at best. Someone fluent in Norwegian and with access to genuine old newspapers may be able to prove this with a verifiable source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 3marish (talk • contribs) 02:10, 14 September 2025 (UTC)
Caffeine-free
[edit]The original Crystal Pepsi from 1992 was not caffeine-free but the article states that "Crystal Pepsi was marketed as a caffeine-free "clear alternative" to normal colas." Shonny74 (talk) 15:41, 1 January 2026 (UTC)
