Conditionality principle

[edit]
  • It would be great to have at least one example where the assumptions required for the conditionality principle are probably met, and one where the assumptions clearly aren't met. -- 18:09, 12 August 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by RedHouse18 (talkcontribs)

First appearance

The article incorrectly implies that the conditionality principle first appeared in 1962. Sir David Cox emphasized the principle in an earlier paper:

Cox, D.R. (1958) "Some problems connected with statistical inference," Annals of Mathematical Statistics 29, 357-372.

Fisher introduced the idea behind what we now call the conditionality principle. I will correct the wording of the page accordingly.

Before Fisher, Charles Sanders Peirce discussed recognizable sets in his articles on the logic of science in Popular Science Monthly. (This observation may be OR, but it may interest you.) Kiefer.Wolfowitz (talk)
