@Hushpuckena Yes, "seven people", but "7 miles"; the format I chose here was quite intentional. Though there are contexts where spelling out "seven miles" would be appropriate, and cases where it might be debatable, I don't think this is one of them. In this instance, "7 miles" is not a tally, much less a count of individuals; it is a measurement, and with measurements both the units and the precision are always arbitrary. Had the context justified the use of a more exact figure (and, to be clear, it doesn't; distance between towns is inherently "fuzzy"), we might have written, say, "7.2 miles". Obviously it would be ridiculous in this example to write out "seven point two" – but nothing is changed by the fact that we happen to be using only one significant figure.

I do appreciate the reminder of a valid point that your edit brings up: Since these are measurements, really I should have used the "convert" template. It causes a problem, though; namely, "7 miles" needs a non-breaking space. Do you know whether "convert" provides syntax to support this feature?
