confusing

[edit]

I am a little confused by this article because it never clearly states exactly what this building is. The lede paragraph doesn't say at all. Later in the article it says that there was a proposal for a town hall and civic offices, but then it says the proposal was revised to just be for civic offices and not, I assume, a town hall. What does that mean exactly? What is a "town hall" and "civic offices" in this context? Was this building the place where the city council met? "Our City" is a vague name for a building and does not suggest what the its purpose was. 71.237.216.198 (talk) 07:02, 3 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your feedback. Obviously, I can't do much about its name (it's called what it's called), but I hope I have addressed all the other points with my latest edit. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Schwede66 08:19, 4 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Renaming of article

[edit]

I've never heard of this building referred to as "Our City", which I think was a pre-earthquake name for it. More recent sources do not use this name, and refer to it instead as the "Municipal Chambers", "Old Municipal Chambers" or "Christchurch Municipal Chambers".

@Schwede66 you have a long history with this article, do you have an opinion on this? David Palmer aka cloventt (talk) 21:07, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

It sure was Our City before the EQs. I would not know whether that’s changed. I have no objection to renaming it. Schwede66 23:24, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Most sources appear to refer to the building as the 'Municipal Chambers' or some variation there of that. I'm not sure what specific title should be proposed for an RM but I do believe the article title should be changed. I think Christchurch Municipal Chambers is the best one as it naturally disambiguates it. Heritage New Zealand refers to 'Our City' as an exhibition hosted in the building itself.
