The People's Republic of Mallacoota

[edit]

I thought I would discuss here, as it makes sense not to change the page too much given the ongoing deletion discussion. Whonting removed content from this article about Episode 1 of this series, which is titled The Liquorice Bullet, challenging that it does not meet WP:POPCULTURE, and it is true that there was no reference supporting analysis of this episode. I was able to track down this article , but it is from the ABC who also broadcast the series, so I am on the fence as to whether this could be considered "independent" analysis. I also found this article , which reiterates the reverend's observations made in the episode about well-intentioned public support through the donations of bullets that did not in any way address the community's actual needs. However, this source does not directly reference the Television program. These may be WP:PASSING, but I have given my thoughts on the sum of passing references counting towards notability in the AfD. Given my already declared inclusionist bias, I'm seeking another opinion on whether these sources would support readding this content? Tagging Graham87 but definitely not opposed to anyone else jumping in! Dfadden (talk) 03:45, 21 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

I tend to be a bit more lenient about in popular culture sections when there are only one or two items. But yes, the event didn't seem to change the general perception of chocolate bullets; it just happens that they were the items donated. I'm on the fence too. I think it's also worth taking into consideration the size of the article. Before it was removed, it made up almost a third of the article's wordcount. Even if it was trimmed 3x; is it worth dedicating a tenth of our coverage of chocolate bullets to their mention in a niche television documentary, that no independent sources remarked upon as noteworthy? That's a fair point re: the overall size of the article. I think it's more than trivial, but given I've hit a limit to how much i can expand the article with the online sources available to me at the moment, I'll leave it out for now. If the AfD results in a keep and I get a day off when I am very bored, I am sure I can find some stronger printed sources at the National Library or Museum to support the notion of cultural significance. Yeah didn't think of that re proportionality. Graham87 (talk) 14:39, 21 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
