Reason for cancellation needs references

[edit]

Today, I removed the claim that "the Conservative government cancelled the program to appeal to its Christian-populist voter base" because the site provoked responses from "[a]nti-abortion advocates" who "frequently targeted the CHN with angry mail". This claim may be true, but it really needs some kind of newspaper article or other reference to substantiate it. There are a variety of other reasons that might have played a role in the program being cancelled, and some of those reasons could be supported by written documentation elsewhere. For example, the CHN was cited in an Auditor's General report for improper accounting and waste (though this was a few years before the program was cancelled).[1] I have my own theories on why the program was cancelled, and I worked for the program for 4 years, but unless there is some kind of reference citing those reasons, then the most convincing reason would be the one that was cited by the government of the day: it was cut to save money. It was, after all, something like $25M annually for what amounted to a relatively small database of hand picked health information resources that were not reviewed by medical professionals, and that did not generally include information about drugs or treatments. - Philip Kiff 07:32, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
