Age revealing

[edit]

The article says "[h]owever, his mother later revealed his age, and after spending three months in a brig—he was not released until after his sister threatened to contact the newspapers—he was dishonorably discharged for lying about his age and lost his disability benefits.[1]" Breyer states that Graham "admitted his true age [to] Sargent Shriver". Is he missing something? —Ed (TalkContribs) 03:38, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Not "ever"

[edit]

Youngest in WWII, and possibly the 20th century; but boys even younger served openly and legally in the Navy during the age of sail. Solicitr (talk) 22:36, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Issues

[edit]

This article is prone to vandalism. Changed rank of Lieutenant to unknown as he joined the Marines at age 17, was in 7 months and probably did not even have a high school diploma. Jim1138 (talk) 07:41, 3 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Alfred Czech

[edit]

On the axis side of the war Alfred Czech was age 12 when he received the Iron Cross from Adolph Hitler in the spring of 1945 for heroism battling the Russian Army . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:D:A500:2A1:F991:A2B:5308:1A5F (talk) 22:24, 2 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

That's Adolf Hitler (not Adolph). Many Germans in their early teens -- BdM girls as well as HJ and DJ boys -- fought in the defense of Germany in the final months of World War II 10:00, 9 October 2025 (UTC)

Awards

[edit]

Graham was below the minimum age for enlistment. His enlistment was therefore invalid. For that reason he was entitled to neither pay nor medals. The purported reinstatement of awards was a nullity, as he was simply not eligible.Royalcourtier (talk) 08:23, 22 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

Graham's award of the Bronze Star Medal is doubtful. The BSM was not established until 1944 - after Graham was discharged from the Navy. While the BSM could be awarded retroactively to December 7, 1941 it is doubtful that Graham, who was out of the Navy would have received the award as his service was considered less than honorable. If he was awarded the BSM there should be some official documentation to back it up. jmgould

Date in photo caption

[edit]

The date on the photo caption appears inconsistent with the rest of the information, as he would not have been in the Navy at that point in time. Is this possibly 1942 rather than 1947? ~2026-28051-34 (talk) 07:24, 9 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
