This song has become a perfect example of "Political Correctness" because of the eventuality of Florence Ballard and the condemnation of Diana Ross by Mary Wilson's first book. It is a rather juvenile song with ridiculous lyrics that no reasonable member of The Record-Buying Public would even notice - let alone buy. Yes, Ballard is loud, soulful and raw but so is chop meat left out on a kitchen table for far too long. Regardless of the useless endowments of the virtues of Florence Ballard, without the voice of Diana Ross, no one but God would have ever heard of The Supremes. And, because of the eventual fame of The Supremes, fronted by Diana Ross, such useless and pointless mention of Buttered Popcorn would simply not exist.
