Edit request: 2026 acquisition and updates

[edit]

I am disclosing that I work for Serruya Private Equity (SPE), one of the acquiring parties of Bonchon. I have a conflict of interest and am therefore not editing the article directly. I am requesting the following factual updates, each supported by third-party sources listed below.

1. History section — add after existing final paragraph

[edit]

Existing article ends at: "...VIG Partners has held a majority 55% stake since December 2018, with the founding family retaining 45%."Existing article ends at: "...VIG Partners has held a majority 55% stake

Proposed addition (new paragraph):

On August 12, 2026, Bonchon announced it would be acquired by Minor Food (MF) and Serruya Private Equity (SPE), with the sellers being VIG Partners and the founding Seo family. Under the terms of the transaction, MF — a wholly owned subsidiary of Minor International and an existing Bonchon master franchisee in Thailand — acquired ownership of the brand and operations globally outside the Americas, while SPE, a Toronto-based private investment firm, acquired the brand and operations throughout the Americas. William Blair served as lead financial advisor to Bonchon International, with BDA Partners as co-advisor. The transaction closed by the end of August 2026.

2. Ownership section — update outdated ownership line

[edit]

Existing text: South Korean private equity firm VIG Partners has held a majority 55% stake since December 2018, with the founding family retaining 45%.Existing article ends at: "...VIG Partners has held a majority 55% stake

Proposed replacement:

South Korean private equity firm VIG Partners held a majority 55% stake from December 2018 until the 2026 sale, with the founding Seo family retaining 45%. Following the August 2026 acquisition, Minor Food and Serruya Private Equity own the Bonchon brand and operations globally.

3. Operations / Expansion — update location figures

[edit]

Existing text: The chain operates approximately 500 restaurants across 10+ countries.

Proposed replacement:

As of 2026, Bonchon operates approximately 500 restaurants across nine countries, having surpassed 150 locations in the United States. Following the 2026 acquisition, SPE has indicated priority expansion markets in the Americas including Canada, Mexico, and Chile.

4. Recognition — add 2026 award

[edit]

Proposed addition to existing awards list:

Fast Casual Magazine named Bonchon to its Top Movers & Shakers list in 2026.
