Weird AI article saying it's medicine?

[edit]

https://cymitquimica.com/cas/5251-93-4/?srsltid=AfmBOoriyZRCin3aYolYKhvxZMrozTUyU-p_yy_77SqrzHSezWc56-fr "primarily recognized for its use as an anti-anxiety agent and has applications in various therapeutic contexts"

Probably not a reliable source. RustyOldShip (talk) 04:24, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

To be clear, I'm just guessing it's AI written, as it seems to be nonsense. RustyOldShip (talk) 04:26, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Currently produced in China?

[edit]

I found a listing for "Acetic acid,2-[(benzoylamino)oxy]-" (5251-93-4) which I cannot link because lookchem.com is blacklisted. saying that this company in China can sell you industrial 99% benzadox, with production up to 1,000 tonnes a month. RustyOldShip (talk) 04:40, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Potential merge with benzadox-ammonium

[edit]

I have reverted the bold edit to merge the two articles because I think it deserves discussion before such a move. I have looked through relevant manuals of style (MOS/Chemistry/Compounds, MOS/Chemistry/Chemicals) and there seems to be no mention of what to do with salts of a chemical, and I think there are at least a few ways it could reasonably be done (and benzadox is hardly unique in having one or several) so I'd like to hear some more general opinions.

1. The merged article is a bit clunky for having two infoboxes. On my screen at least, they together extend to over twice the length of the article. (Confusingly, they bear the same title. Is this inherent to using the chembox template?)

2. Other pesticides can have several notable chemical variants (e.g. dalapon and ioxynil each have three. Two of ioxynil's are mentioned in article, one of which (the most widely used) has a standalone article) Using multiple chemboxes for all of that would become comically long. As alternatives, the information can be skipped, or summarised in article ((e.g. Ioxynil#Variants)) in a non-standard and limited way.

3. How burdensome is it to have the extra articles? I have created several of this kind of variant article, with the pattern that it first links to the main article, and then discusses anything specific to that variant only. The main is already on List of herbicides, so there is no point linking both or putting it in similar lists/categories, so any reader probably searched for it or intentionally clicked from the main article. WP:NOMERGE does suggest this kind of split-related article as an alternative to merging. RustyOldShip (talk) 09:26, 4 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
