Baron Bliss Light tower

[edit]

Obviously, the present Baron Bliss Light tower is not the same one originally built on that sight. There does not appear to be any remaining elements of that older tower called the Fort George Light Tower. Baron Bliss died on March 9, 1926, aboard his yacht, Sea King II, anchored in the harbor by Belize City. He was buried in a nearby park temporarily until a granite tomb could be built close to the sea wall a few years later. Undated photos exist showing the dedication ceremony when that new tomb was completed and Bliss' mortal remains moved there. What is the date for that ceremony? It appears to be late 1920s or perhaps into the 1930s. At the time of that ceremony, the Baron Bliss light tower had not yet been built. Photos show only a tall poll standing there with a lantern hanging from the top. It is reported in tourist travel documents that the new tower was built in the 1950s. I would like to know the exact date for that construction. Thank you. Mike Lynch ~2026-17123-22 (talk) 17:16, 18 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
