Footnotes

[edit]

Footnote 7 and 14 are the same. Some wikipedian (more knowledgeable than me) may wish to combine them. George963 au (talk) 15:00, 11 July 2022 (UTC)Reply

Who coined term "sociology"?

[edit]

This article says that Comte coined the term "sociology". The article on Emmanuel Joseph Sieyes, and, indeed, the Simple English Wikipedia article on sociology say Sieyes did this. Which is correct? I had always thought the term was coined by Comte, but my background is in psychology rather than sociology. YTKJ (talk) 21:21, 15 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

Mathematician

[edit]

Comte is said to be a mathematician. I am not sure if he published a theorem in maths. ~2025-34076-97 (talk) 17:11, 16 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

The article states that he regarded mathematics as the highest of sciences. That does not make him a mathematician. The article also states that statistical methods were advocated in positivism. But that doesn’t make him a mathematician either. The link to mathematician is removed. — Rgdboer (talk) 20:47, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

“The West”

[edit]

This page should be updated to include Varouxakis’s account of Comte as the pioneer of “The West” (l’Occident) as a concept. ~2026-23338-05 (talk) 07:28, 16 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
