Origin of the term
[edit]Since this article first appeared in 2014, it has included the claim that the term "Atlantic City" was first introduced by Finn in an unpublished manuscript from 1982 titled Comparison of probabilistic tests for primality. The article cites a 2003 book RSA and Public-Key Cryptography by Mollin, and the same claim appears earlier in the 1996 book Algorithmic Number Theory by Bach and Shallit.
As far as I can tell, however, this claim is false. I recently obtained from the Princeton Library a copy of a 1982 technical report published by Finn, also titled Comparison of probabilistic tests for primality. Presuming the contents of this technical report are the same as those of the unpublished manuscript, the term "Atlantic City" does not appear anywhere in this work. Going one step further, I contacted Finn himself via email, who stated that he was not the originator of the term "Atlantic City".
I'm not sure yet what the true origin of the term "Atlantic City" is, but if I uncover more information, I'll add it to this article. For the time being, I have removed the erroneous information. Taylor J. Smith (talk) 01:46, 3 March 2026 (UTC)
