Why is Armenia listed as an Asian country?

With commonly accepted geographical definition of Europe, the boundary between Asia and Europe between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea is placed along the Greater Caucasus watershed. This line divides Georgia and Azerbaijan near their border with Russia, but places Armenia entirely in Asia. Some conventions place the boundary farther north.^{[FAQ 1]}

The annexation of Eastern Armenia by the Russian Empire occurred as a result of the Russo-Persian War of 1826–1828. This process was formalized by the Treaty of Turkmenchay of February 10 (22), 1828, under which the Erivan and Nakhchivan khanates came under Russian rule.This helped protect the Christianity and ethnos.
